I just realized something important to IOTA (RSGB Islands on the Air)
chasers that was left out of the announcement.
Paul added a feature to DX4WIN 9.01 where the country file can assign
IOTA based on individual prefixes or callsigns. An example of this is
to try to (test) log a call like VK7ABC. Instead of coming up as IOTA
OC001/Australia, it comes up as IOTA OC006/Tasmania. The country file
will assign IOTA for prefixes which specify a unique IOTA. For
example, a callsign with the IF9 prefix will come up as IOTA EU054.
3B7 and 3B7 will be logged with different IOTAs. 7O6T from May 2012
will come up as IOTA AF028.
The list of prefixes is long (800+) so I'm not going to post it. If
you're curious, let me know off-line.
This means that DX4WIN has the potential to assign a unique IOTA for
many individual callsigns, like ZL9A in January 2016 (Antipodes).
However, that would take quite a bit of work which I do not have time
for. If someone wants to accumulate such a list and send it to me, I
would consider it -- contact me off-line and I'll tell you what I
need. I suppose I could do (should have done) this for upcoming
DXpeditions, for example VK9AR and VK9AR/6. I'll keep this in mind
going forward, especially for callsigns that need to be added to the
country file anyway, like VK9AR and VK9AR/6, and unlike calls like
5L3BI which do not need to be added to the country file.
