[Dx4win] [DX4WIN] Multiple QSOs Group number

Group numbers were increased 5-6 years ago. As reported, some 65K available now and I can use numbers above 256 without trouble. However, I do not use as many numbers as I used to before the increase because, as someone posted yesterday, I also bracket the same contest, over years, in the same group number. For me, much more easy to analyse within DX4Win. 

As with most posts to this and similar reflectors the 'problem' will almost certainly be in the individual set-up - something ticked (checked) that should not be, something forgotten that needs doing, etc. Good luck with the fix - it works, it just needs to be set up correctly.

Ah, so there has been a change in the allowable number of groups.  That been the case I have no answer.  Maybe Tony has found is a bug in that for some reason the Multiple QSO operation still thinks 254 is it.

It looks to me (looking at the .DXL file structure) like the Group Number
was increased in v8.x from the previous max of 254 to a max of 65,534!

I thought 254 groups was the limit in DX4WIN?  Although having a quick look
in the help I now can't find any reference to this.

Any how what I have been doing, working with the maybe misguided thought
that allocating groups was not limitless I have been re using the same group
number for the same contest year after year.  If I want to look at the QSO's
for that contest in any one particular year I use a date filter in the
selection editor.

Wonder if there is a fix for this?  I have more than 254 Group names. (I do
a lot of contesting!). Although I can individually change the group number
for a QSO record to be any value - Say 300,  if I try to do a Multiple QSO
operation and change the group names for a number of QSOs to anything more
than 254, then it tells me that no QSO has been changed.

I sure others must have seen this or am I doing something wrong? I have
157,000 QSOs in the file.
