I too was in the business ATT retired data communication tech...serial ports were easy
break out box could tell you anything you needed to know WHY it wasn't working.
Break out box on a port use jumpers to test voltages..use jumper make a pin high.
Yup....wish we still had them. 8 port comm boards they worked...oh well i digress..

This is what I'm working on and I'm close to giving up.
DX4WIN is my logging pgm no rig file FT-991 support.
N4PY Pegasus rig control very nice allows complete RIG control within DX4win
just now playing using it.
FLdigi for digital...N4PY is helping me run it the same time as DX4WIN, N4PY pgm
and fldigi all in the desktop window.
WHY???? Because I just don't want to start all over with another LOGGING PROGRAM I have used DX4WIN for 20 years I know everything it does imports exports preferences blah blah.

But I'm this close to leaving for a current supported logging program.

USB geeeeeessss....
