Hello Ron,

running DX4WIN (now 8.05) for several years under ubuntu Linux, puppy
linux and Linux Mint. Until mid of October everything worked fine. For
some reason  (full encryption disk easy to install...) I changed to
ubuntu linux 13.1. Now the bad thing: Serial port to read out the rig
is now blocked!! I didn't find out how to release the port so far...
CW: I never used parallel-port, so I cannot tell you about that

open serial ports:
Puppy linux Wary
Mint 13 (ubuntu-derivate, debian-derivate not tested)
Ubuntu 12.04 / Gnome desktop
there may be some others, but not tested by myself...

I'm sure there will be some help in the www!

About the Desktops
As I never got familiar with Unity desktop
I always used Gnome or Cinnamon. Now the new Cinammon is wow! so I
installed Gnome 3 and Cinnamon 2.0 over Ubuntu 13.1. It works fine!
