Revisiting the problem again on using an external call database with DX4WIN,
I thought that DX4WIN would now work with the
QRZ.com database. With my previous general logging software, WIN-EQF, I
used the Buckmaster Hamcall CD info (which I put on the hard drive) and
could populate name, address, grid, etc.- type info into the logging program
by use of a function key. When I changed to DX4WIN, I found that DX4WIN did
not offer this linkage to Hamcall so I no longer subscribed yearly to their
call database.
With all the recent changes to the QRZ.com site, I asked them for its
compatibility to DX4WIN. Here is their
answer today:
"DX4WIN has problems that prevent it from working with the Current QRZ
system. Basically, the program is old and is no longer being maintained.
There are a lot of other good programs that will work, such as WIN-EQF or
Ham Radio Deluxe, both of which are current and being supported by their
authors. Our XML subscription provides the most utility and is $29.95 per
year."
So do any of you DX4WIN users use a call database that, by use of a function
key, will populate the entry window with the information so that it is saved
in the contact info?
In the preferences section of DX4WIN in the Data Sources, there is a listing
of CDROMS
such as Buckmaster, Flying Horse, QRZ, etc. that appear to be options to
use. Also on this page is QRZ.com/db/ so what is the use of this listing?
thanks,
