[Dx4win] CAT control keeps timing out

I am trying to use radio CAT control using DX4WIN and Flex 5K. Windows 7 with vspMGR 1.0.3.01 
serial pair com 14 and 15. All works fine except "radio interface" keeps timing out every few minutes. 
Tried uping retries all the way to 20 and poll rate from 500-5000 ms. nothing seems to work.
Using PowerSDR 2.3.5
