Yes you have right. This way  (deactivating ssb) you will not see an ssb qso 
you need for a band slot.
I don't know a solution. I didn't undertand it ok.
You want ssb qsos but only for new band slots not for new mode. Beside this 
the most important is that dx4win gives priority to the mode and not to the 
band. If a qso is new mode (ssb) and new band also, you will see new mode 
(not interesting for you) but there is no way to know that is a new band.
So you need to change priorites.
I don't think this can be done but it's useful for sure.

Paul, can we define cluster priorities in the next version? For example if i 
need the new band to be number 2 and new mode a grey spot, etc...
