Hi folks,
I've run into a weird problem and I'm unable to figure out what is causing it. Here are the details:
HP quad core 2.8 (I think) processor with 8GB ram originally with Vista but got the "free" update to Win 7; microKeyer (original) and the most current router program, DX4WIN 7.02.02 to PRO-III. Additionally, on several occasions, VE7CC AR user program in conjunction with DX4WIN packet/telnet functions.
Problem: at irregular intervals (anywhere from a couple of days to, literally, a couple of minutes) I suddenly get a great view of the blue screen of death. Have to shut computer down manually and then restart, at which time I get either a normal start or, about half time, I will have to start it back up in the "safe" mode (one of the several types of "safe" mode with Win7) and have tried each of them at least once. Computer does, eventually boot up again and everything seems fine until it all happens again.
I have restored the computer to a period about three days ago before all this started, but I've had the problem a few times before in the last month or so. I have a sneaking suspicion it has to do with M/S updates (which I can't seem to prevent, although I do have it set to "don't do anything" when an automatic update shows up unbidden). It may also have something to do with HP updates which show up occasionally. I cannot place blame for this on any one thing -- too many variables to determine (by me, anyway) any kind of causal relationship. I'm guessing it's most likely some sort of interfacing problem with some or all of the software and/or M/S updates which seem always to be "new" when this whole fracas starts happening again.
If anyone has any idea about what to do with this, I would appreciate your letting me know. I'm spending about 95% of my radio time trying to get the damn computer to work the way it is supposed to, and so far that has not added even a single new country or new band to my totals -- clearly unsatisfactory.
Thanks and 73,
Karl, K1KO
