Pete,
a small m is for mili .. 1/1000, like miliwatt, milimeter. The capital M is for
mega.
As for units, those names derived from real names are abbreviated in capital, but
when written it´s in small letters.
So, 1 V / 1 volt , 1 W, 1 watt
But 1m for meter, because there was no Mr. Meter. :)
