[Dx4win] How to identify serial ports on new computer?

When I viewed the com ports it showed 1,2,3 then 8,9,10,11.
Ports 2 and 3 do not exist but apparently something was once assigned to
them.
DX4Win only goes to 8 so I changed the port number in DX4Win to 8 and it
started keying.
Since DX4Win only goes to 8, I changed the 8,9,10,11 to 5,6,7,8.
Although 5,6,7,8 are marked "in use" I forced the numbers I wanted and
rebooted. Right now, the key line is plugged into port 5 and works
but I cannot get the CAT port to change the radio. Also the CAT light
doesn't come on every few seconds as it used to.
Either I have a bad CAT cable or the Yaesu 1000 MP is damaged.
I could probably work FT5 but it would be cumbersome without CAT.
Still working on it.
