By default, DX4WIN thinks 40 phone starts at 7.150 (or 7.125).  Unless 
the spot comment has the word SSB in it, or the QSX frequency is above 
7.150 (or 7.125), then spot will be assumed to be CW, which you said, 
you have already worked, thus gray.
