[Dx4win] DX4Win on Windows Vista

Craig,

Just read up on the US Interface Navigator interface unit, it sounds
amazing. Let me know, when you get it, if it works fine under Vista, having
read your previous comments and product review it looks OK to me! It sells
at £195 (US$378) here plus £25 (US$49) for cables. I guess, as usual :(, its
much cheaper in USA??

Any thoughts on LPT ports under Vista??

Tony,

Thanks for your comments. Yes, Vista will work with virtual COM ports
created by a USB-to-COM port "dongle". I have an IOGear USB-to-COM port
adapter that works for rig control and CW keying through my RIGblaster Pro.
It shows up as COM4 in my Vista computer. I have just concluded testing that
setup, and it works just fine -- and the CW sounds good. It works with
WriteLog, too.

I do have on order the new USInterface Navigator interface unit, which uses
a single USB 2.0 port for everything -- external sound card, rig control,
FSK keying, CW keying (with a built-in K1EL WinKey 2), plus provides an
extra COM port for a TU (or whatever), and an extra CI-V rig control port.
Can't wait for it to arrive so I can get back on RTTY.

Again, thanks to all for a great discussion!

Craig, K0CF

Craig,

I have been watching this thread from "afar", many thanks for taking it to
final conclusion!

I would be interested to hear from other people about LPT ports and COM
ports. I am aware Vista does not support these ports only USB. So my
question is, if one uses a USB CI-V cable (for example), then the software
supplied produces a virtual Com port even though it is connected via a USB
port. Will Vista accept this???
