Hi Steve,
Here are the connections I have made between my PC and EZMaster:
USB cable from PC USB to EZMaster USB (assigned as COM 5)
Serial cable from PC COM 1 to EZMaster COM
Parallel cable from PC LPT 1 to EZMaster Parallel
(Serial cable from PC COM 3 to PRO.SIS.TEL Rotator)
Audio in and out cables between PC and EZMaster for digimodes
Depending on the software capabilities I can control with this setup either
one of my FT-1000MP or both of them. I have tested the setup with following
applications: MixW, WSJT, DX4WIN, TR4W (beta, limited functionality), Band
Master, N1MM. For CW (and most of the contests in SOSB category with 1
radio) I still use good old TRLog and therefore I have not tried yet
EZMaster's WinKey. There are not so many applications supporting EZMaster's
integrated WinKey which is also a limiting factor. TRLog is running in a
separate old DOS laptop which "steals" the parallel cable from other PC when
I need do CW.
It took few hours to get DX4WIN to work thru EZMaster but most of the time
was spend because of my stupid mistake. I was only monitoring FT-1000MP
"CAT" indicator to see if the communication starts BUT I forgot to set
DX4WIN to "Add Real-time" -mode. In Off-line mode there is no traffic
between DX4WIN and radio, and therefore "CAT" indicator was not blinking. As
a consequence of that I was configuring DX4WIN and EZMaster again and again
before I found it out by coincidence that the radio receives commands from
the PC.
So the procedure for setting DX4WIN to work with FT-1000MP via EZMaster in
my case was following:
1. Connect necessary cables (E.g. USB cable between PC and EZMaster as well
as CAT, Mic, Phones and Key from EZMaster to radio)
2. Configure DX4WIN for your radio(s) and connection method (FT-1000MP and
COM5 with 19200 baud)
3. Set EZMaster mode for "ANY Windows" with EZConsole with following
settings: CW=USB, RadioA=USB, Radio A=4800/8/2/None
4. Configure EZMaster ports with proper communication parameters with
EZManager:
Select Advanced tab
PTT Delay - Rig A: 65 ms
PTT Delay - Rig B: 65 ms
Port Setup
RadioA: 4800/8/None/2
RadioB: 4800/8/None/2
COM: 9600/8/None/1
RS232: 9600/8/None/1
Select Extended tab (IMPORTANT!!!!)
Close EZManager
I have noticed that setting EZMaster mode with EZConsole seems to reset
something in EZMaster and therefore you need to configure communication
ports again with EZManager.
I hope this helps you in getting your DX4WIN to work with EZMaster and
radio.
