Vista has a useful feature for recovering older versions of a file by
automatically creating shadow copies of deleted files.  To recover an older
version of a file, right-click on the file name (icon) and select Properties. 
In the new window, click on the Previous Versions tab.

If you're running Vista and your log was corrupted, you might be able to
recover it this way.
