I keep meaning to write an application note about this.
There are 4 files to be concerned with:
save\K9SM.DXL - this is your log
save\K9SM.~XL - this is the previous saved copy of your log.
Each time you save your log, the previously-saved
log (K9SM.DXL) is renamed to K9SM.~XL
DX4WIN.DXB - this is a backup of your log. Each time that the
backup timer counts down to 0, all the QSOs loaded
into DX4WIN (both from disk, as well as unsaved QSOs)
are written to this file. It is in the directory
*above* the SAVE directory.
DX4WIN.~XB - this is the previous saved copy of your log backup.
Each time DX4WIN writes the DX4WIN.DXB file, the
previously-saved backup is renamed to DX4WIN.~XB.
It is in the directory *above* the SAVE directory.
So you have up to 4 files to check. Find the one that's either a) largest or
b) has the latest date/time stamp. Copy this to your SAVE directory using a
.DXL extension (i.e. K9SM-backup.DXL) and then try to open the file. See if it
has the missing QSOs. If none of the files have them, you're out of luck.
Next time:
- make sure that DX4WIN is backing up your QSOs.
- never walk away from the rig/computer without doing a save (ALT-S).
- never turn the computer off until DX4WIN is done saving.
