For some time I have been using the TweakUI PowerToy from Microsoft:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
There is a setting (Xmouse) which causes the window focus to follow the mouse,
i.e. when the mouse pointer is moved into a window, that window gets focus
without having to click anything. Even if the window is underneath (obscured
by) another window.
I got used to this on Unix, etc. X Windows systems and really appreciate the
functionality on my PC. You may find it useful in conjunction with the RTTY
and/or PSK windows.
