We should do anything we can to encourage authors of good software.
Let's not be a cheapskate and starve them into doing something else with
their talents.

Hi Chuck,

But they don't remove all bucks from version 6 till today!

I spent no money for bug fixing ! ( Do you spent money for Windows
service packs ? ) For a real major release I will spent money but not
for a Dayton joke.

Yep! In the current declining market for ham products (you might argue
this
assumption if you wish) the probability that a small (1 or 2 people)
software company will fold is high.

Independent of any substantive value-added functionality, I find it in
MY
best interest to throw $25 their way from time-to-time just to help
ensure
they'll be there five years from now to answer my questions and clean up

bugs. Think of guaranteed bug removal downstream as "value added" now.
This
might be pressing a couple of philosophical hot buttons, but real-world
scenarios often require pragmatic responses.

How much are you willing to spend on preventive maintenance of your
hardware? Don't you think your software deserves a little too?

Chuck, N4NM
