[Dx4win] problem with radio control

Looking for help with radio control. My old computer died and have recently 
installed Dx4Win v. 6 on a new Dell Latitude D600 laptop. Everything seems to 
work OK except control of my Yaesu FT-990. Have checked the port, cable, and 
radio and all seem OK, but the program is not communicating with the radio for 
some reason. Settings are:

Yaesu FT-990
address - 00
baudrate - 4800
com port 1 (this is the port on the laptop. I've also tried ports 4 and 5 on 
a byterunner hub)
poll rate 5000 (have also tried 1000)
max tries - 6 (have also tried 15)
DTR high (have also tried RTS high)

Any ideas on what the problem might be?
