[Dx4win] Problem accessing the web using Ext Data tab

OK, Mel. This has been maddening. I ahd been doing what you suggested
regarding the cursor and all that came up was the QRZ.com page which
allows one to search for a call, but the call specified in DX4WIN was
not automatically entered. However, after further investigation I
uncovered the following:
1. Rather than originally typing in the URLs as suggested in the
manual, I ahd copied the URLs for QRZ.com's lookup page and the QSL
manager page from their respective pages and inserted them into the
required locations in PREFERENCES/EXT DATA. Those copied URLs turned
out to be http://www.qrz.com/callsign/ and http://www.qrz.com/callsign/
i/qsl.html respectively. When I hit ENTER with a call entered in the
EXT DATA callsign window, it would take me to a QRZ.com menu page which
included links to many of QRZ.com's pages including the QSL manager
lookup page. No call was automatically entered on that page.
2. When I changed the addresses above to those specified by the
DX4WIN manual (http://www.qrz.com/ for the callsign and
http://www.qrz.com/callsign?= for the QSL manager), the same menu page
as above came up when I plugged a call into the callsign slot in the EXT
Data window. However, when I entered a call into the QSL manager slot,
the QRZ.com page came up with the normal information relevant ot that
call. It seemed that things might be reversed.
3. I then reversed the URLs in PREFERENCES/EXT DATA so that
http://www.qrz.com/callsign?= was the callsign URL and
http://www.qrz.com/ was the QSL manager URL. Now entering a call into
the call slot does bring up the page with the expected info relevant to
that callsign, but doing the same in the manager slot just brings up the
menu page referred to above.
So what's the bottom line?
1. Use the URLs that the manual suggests, but REVERSE their locations
in PREFERENCES/EXT DATA as described above.
2 Then, when looking up a call in callsign, the QRZ.com web page
comes up with the expected info. (The cursor must be in the slot with
the call; otherwise it doesn't work.) However, there is no automatic
insertion of info into the EXT DATA window as takes place with a CD-ROM
lookup.
3. When looking up QSL manager info, one only gets to an entry page.
Manual insertion and searching is still required. I don't believe that
the program was intended to work that way and there must be a bug.
I am sorry to be so long winded, but this really turned out to be an
ordeal. I am still not totally satisfied with my observations and would
appreciate more confirmation.
