[Dx4win] Save File

I swap files with a second computer and a laptop and keep them updated by
simply copying over my .DXL file (it's actually ZL2AL.DXL) and that does the
business for my weekly backups. I have about 30,000 QSOs in the current log
and use Windows 98. The steps are as follows.

1. "Send" the 2.3MB file to my Briefcase
2. Compress the ZL2AL.DXL file to a ZL2AL.ZIP file
3. "Send" the .ZIP file to a floppy
4. Put the floppy on another machine and reverse the process.

The whole operation is quite simple and has the added advantage of leaving
your latest .DXL file in your SAVE directory + another one in your BRIEFCASE
folder and another Zipped file on your floppy.

Tom, KB8UUZ made comment in his posting that he backs up his .~XL file in
addition to the .DXL file. It's my understanding that they are the same
except that the ~XL file is the DX4Win internal backup of the DXL file. I
was wondering why he did that? Tom may be able to shed some light on it

I usually don't backup other files unless I make a change to the .INI file
or the .CTY file or the .LAB and then I back them up with the same system. I
have had several changes of computers, computer crashes and hard disk
failures over the years since I started using DX4Win 4.07 but have never
lost a QSO yet because of making backup files at least once a week or every
50 QSOs.
