Jimmy,

That's all you really need to do.  Win XP will assign it a COM port number.
You can look for it under the "MY COMPUTER", "PROPERTIES",  "HARDWARE",
"DEVICE MANAGER", "PORTS".

I've played with a couple of them and they work fine for most applications.
