[Dx4win] Help Error Msg w/ AMD Computer

I would never upgrade a system that way. The best way for a lot of reasons
is to start with a clean, formatted hard drive and first re-install the
operating system, then all of the programs one at a time.

You will need to have the old .ini file, your log file, and .cty file to get
the re-installed version of dx4win up and running.

The problem you are having now is more than likely due to the difference in
com and lpt ports and their IRQ assignment between the old and new system.
This causes IRQ conflicts and all sorts of blue screens and freezes. The
worst offenders are sound, modem, and network cards that can crash your
system. The easiest way to troubleshoot the problem is to remove every card
out of the system except the display board, get dx4win working, then install
the boards back one at a time with the sound card last. This is not even
foolproof unless you can disable the so called "Plug and Play bios" which
can undo things faster than you can fix them. Although DX4WIN will run
without any com ports, most users are at least using a com port for a tnc or
radio control and possibly an lpt port.

Good luck. I think the problem your friend is having has little to do with
DX4WIN and a lot to do with the initial computer set up and software
installation.

Subject: [Dx4win] Help Error Msg w/ AMD Computer

Hello to all,
Sending this message for a friend
Running Win4DX version 4.07.
Just upgraded the computer to a AMD 1Gig w/112Meg Ram.
Running Windows 98 second edition.
Put the hard drive from the old computer into the new machine.
All the other programs seem to be working OK.
Getting Error Access Violation message, then computer freezes up when
trying to run Win4DX.

Thanks, Rich AA2MF
