If you have logs that go back many years, DX4WIN has the ONLY solution that
will work properly. I have KA1S from Minami Torishima in 1977, Germany
(deleted), Czechoslovakia (deleted), P2 (Papua) deleted, ZD4 (Gold Goast)
deleted, Y2 (East Germany) deleted, many VK9,VP8, CE9, old Russian calls,
etc. that would only work properly with the DX4WIN merging scheme. I still
have a few calls that I am unsure what country they are from and they can be
found with a Prefix that is blank.

The first time old logs are put in DX4WIN, the exception records are written
for YOUR countries ONLY and the file is then merged with the new country
list. A very nice solution. The differences are clearly shown for EACH and
EVERY exception, which you can save to a file when you merge the files to
determine exactly which exceptions you have.

Other logging programs that attempt to be something to everyone for a
country list make numerous mistakes to the correct country count.

You may want to simply merge each of your old country files, print the
exceptions, and determine if you have all of them in a single country file,
then merge this with the .cty file that comes with 5.03.

Unfortunately Duane I already made the mistake of installing DX4Win
over itself when I changed the location of the \xxx\ham\ directory (twice!)
which
contains DX4Win. I just plain forgot about not installing with making
provision
for a merge.

I _think_ there is a version of dx4win.cty in the shack that I copied over 6
months ago
from my master house version of DX4Win that contains all the exceptions.
It came from copying over both n2la.dxl and dx4win.cty from the master house
version
to update the shack for stuff like qsl's received, etc.

When I'm sure of my ground I'll copy it back to the shack.

However I'm not at all sure it's useful to worry about dx4win.cty.
It seems to me that the log _already_ contains the exception data
and that will not change. The only thing that might matter are new
countries added of which there is only Ducie.

It would be really nice if there was some way to compare two .cty files so
the differences
could be noted and dealt with.
