I think you are referring to the internal keyer in the 920? If so, you are
correct that it is a radio issue in that your 920, along with 99% of the
radios out there with internal keyers, have no provision to use the internal
keyer and an external CW device at the same time.
To get around this, most CW operators do not use the internal keyer (which
is limited in function anyway) and use an external keyer instead which is
connected in parallel with the computer interface. The Logikey K-3 is very
popular these days and works well.
