In late April we successfully conducted a 4-day vessel inspection in Brazil that ended with a very good result. The inspection was carried out by a 3rd party vessel inspector and covered more than 105 checkpoints. The vessel inspection focused on safety equipment, instruments, navigation, engines/machinery, deck, tenders, fuel&fluids, interior, and exterior. Marama is in very good condition and hence the overall feedback is pos- itive. The vessel went through significant upgrades with regards to machinery and engines in 2021 and has since been tested for years, most lately during the previous Antarctica season. The inspection file resulted in a punch list of only a few minor items to be followed up, no major findings during the 4-day inspection. The team is currently working on the final preparations for packing the container scheduled to be shipped from Oslo in early September. Preparing the packing and shipping the container is extremely time consuming and requires a focus on details as our more than 2 years of work now is being materialized into packing lists and labeling the equipment. Today we have finally decided our container will be shipped to Port Stanley, Falkland Island. In Port Stanley a local team of ham radio operators will assist us in receiving the container, conduct a container inspection and make sure all is OK before the team arrive in early January. To Bouvet the team will bring with us 6500 kg of equipment, which includes several tons of fuel and food. Our contract allows for 22 days on the island, but we have food for 30 days and a plan for rationing should we have to stay beyond 22 days. At this stage all the operators have already paid their full deposit of their individual 20,000 USDs operator fee. This is your insurance that we will do whatever we can to make this DXpedition a success. In a few weeks we will pay our 2nd vessel deposit to Marama. Ultimately this represents a huge undertaking for us financially as well a commitment to go to Bouvet and activate the rare #2 DXCC Bouvet island. With all the preparation and planning over the course of the last two years you can rely on our commitment and our determination to go onshore Bouvet in a zodiac 7 months from now. Going to Bouvet would simply not be possibly without the support from the vendors, clubs, foundations, and individual sponsors. June 1st, we completed our budget update, and this shows we?re still missing roughly 100,000 USDs out of our 690,000 USDs budget to be able to go to Bouvet. As we now prepare for the next vessel deposit, we need your support to close the gap. Please consider supporting us by donating upfront. You can follow our plans from our website and the 3Y0J Facebook pages:? http://www.3y0j.no https://www.facebook.com/groups/3093983840726129 Thank you, Oslo 3rd June 2022 Ken?Opskar, LA7GIA, Co-Leader Rune?Oye, LA7THA, Co-Leader?? [edited] Hey Guys - Here is the latest update on the 2022 Sable Island CY0S DXpedition.... "The 2022 Sable Island CY0S DXpedition team is pleased to announce the launch of our new CY0S DXpedition website at: https://www.cy0s.com Chaz, W4GKF, has joined our team as webmaster and has been working tire- lessly with Randy, N0TG, on launching the new website. The website is still a work in progress and new information will be added almost daily. Planning continues to go very well for the 2022 DXpedition. Thanks to K4UEE, W4DKS and W0GJ for their efforts in planning and designing our antenna system for CY0S. Even though Sable Island is 42 KM long, space is very limited within the Sable Station compound. The Sable horses, which number over 500, have free run of the island, except for the area around the Sable Station, which is fenced in! The DXpedition team has a relatively small footprint to work with. Additionally, no antennas can be placed on or near the beach as Sable Island is home to tens of thou- sands of Grey seals. A DXpedition to Sable faces many challenges!" 73, Murray Adams WA4DAN ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TO BE ADDED TO THE OPDX MAILING LIST -- Click or send requests to: Subscribe: (mailto:kb8nw at hotmail.com?subject=subscribe) Unsubscribe: (mailto:kb8nw at hotmail.com?subject=unsubscribe) ** PLEASE NOTE FOR OUTLOOK USERS: PLEASE put your E-mail address also in the body of the message. The latest schedule might be like below: Term-1: From July 10-16th, 2022; callsign A35JP/P (QTH: Niuatoputapu Island (OC-191)) Term-2: From August 7-20th, 2022; callsign A35JP/P (QTH: Niuafo'ou Island (OC-123)) Term-3: From August 28th to September 25th, 2022; callsign A35JP (QTH: Nuku'alofa, Tongatapu Island (OC-049)) Since there is no commercial power available in the island on Term-1 and Term-2, it will be a quite limited operation in terms of output power as well as time. I apologize in advance for the very weak signal and short time QRV!" Remember activity will be on 80-6 meters using CW, SSB and FT8. Equipment is an IC-7300 w/100W into a Vertical antenna. QSL via LoTW and ClubLog, or direct w/2 USDs or by the Bureau via his home callsign JA0RQV. He states, "If you need paper QSL, please be patient to receive it because I will be able to issue paper QSL after I return to Japan in October 2022. Please do not send SASE to my home address." He also mentions, "Sorry but I can not activate any outer islands this time such as Niuatoputapu (OC-191), Niuafo'ou (OC-123), Vava'u (OC-064) and Ha'apai (OC-169) due to restriction of transportation of COVID19." Barry, KD6XU, is currently sailing around the French Polynesia Islands, and is active as FO/KD6XU from Nuka Hiva, Fatu Hiva, and Marquesas Islands. Reports indicate that he will soon be heading to Tuamotu and the Society Islands. Activity will be on 40-12 meters using CW mainly. Cezar, VE3LYC, who has been in contact with Barry, reports the following: "I exchanged some messages with Barry, KD6XU, and he in- dicated that all his operations from various atolls in FO have been and will be from his yacht, at anchor. He didn't know about the IOTA program (how was that possible, hi), and as such he never indicated any of our references. I very briefly explained to him what IOTA is all about, and mentioned that operations from a boat at anchor won't count toward IOTA credits. He understood, and indicated that in case he will have any land based activity he will let the community and us know." There is a 21 min. video on YouTube.com of Barry from his yacht "Ma Kai": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ej0dLVgR3Dg&feature=emb_imp_woyt IOTA NEWS. (Commemorative IOTA Expedition) Members of the KL7RRC team who tried unsuccessfully to activate rare Kiska Island (NA-070) the past two years are hoping their third attempt in July will be the charm. In 2020, it was Covid-19 that forced cancellation, while last year, the team's chartered vessel experienced a medical emergency that scuttled plans just as the vessel was to arrive at Dutch Harbor, AK. This team did operate 6 days from Adak Island (NA-039) and made over 10K QSOs. This year's team has chartered a very capable but expensive (43K USDs) vessel, the "April Lane", that will make the 675 mile Aleutian Island journey from Dutch Harbor to Adak to Kiska, an uninhabited island that is part of the Alaska Mari- time National Wildlife Refuge. The group has secured the necessary permissions from the USFWS to visit the island. Kiska is also designated a National Historic Landmark and is part of the Aleutian Islands World War II National Monument. This year's IOTA activation will be a commemorative operation honoring the 80th anniversary of the historic events taking place on Kiska during WWII... more information to follow. They will operate 3 stations from July 25-31st, tentatively using the KL7RRC callsign 40-6m and during the 2022 IOTA Contest. Current operators are: James/KB2FMH, Alex/KL5CX, Adrian/KO8SCA, Yuri/N3QQ, Tim/NL8F and Hal/W8HC. Visit the website for updates and more information at: https://www.na-234.com NA-112. Alex, AK4AM, will once again be active as AK4AM/p from Emerald Island (WW Loc. FM14pq) between July 3-9th. Activity will be on 160-10 meters using Yaesu FT-991A and an Ultimax Antennas DX Extreme about 300 ft. from the ocean waves. QSL only via LoTW. NA-128. Members of the "NA-128 Contest Group" will once again be active this year as VX2I from Ile-aux-Coudres, Quebec, Canada (FN47), between July 28-31st during the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 30-31st) as a Multi-2/DXpedition entry. The following was posted on QRZ.com June 24th: [edited] A special event station 3D2AJT in memory of my great, real friend Zorro, JH1AJT. Zorro died after serious illness. The station will be active for one month (CW, SSB, FT4, FT8, varAC) and will close on Zorro's 73rd birthday on July 27th. On this day Zorro's wife will organize a farewell party in Oiso Campus, one of Zorro's schools. Some time ago Zorro told me.... ....It's not easy to be "NONCONFORMIST", stay that way forever... Dom (3D2USU/3Z9DX), I'm your biggest fan ... He knew his time is running out.. Last time we met in Japan, he gave me a book of his own authorship printed in English, only in a very limited copies.. In addition to the standard mode operations, good news for 2 Meter EME enthusiasts. Lee, WW2DX, is planning 2M EME from Sable Island. Sable Island is extremely rare on EME. For more details on this EME activity, check the BAND PLAN posted on the CY0S website. Many know Lee for his successful operations from various DX locations, including the 2016 and 2019 CY9C St Paul DXpeditions. Pat N2IEN, well known for SAT operations from various DX locations, will provide the opportunity to work CY0S via SAT. The team is excited about the DXpedition this Fall season. Parks Canada has us scheduled for the October/November time frame. Operational requirements on Sable has delayed Parks Canada from being able to determine the exact dates. The team is anxiously awaiting those dates. Meanwhile, the team is working hard on antenna planning and layout, equipment and logistics. Most of the team will be flying into Halifax, Nova Scotia. Dan/W4DKS and Murray/WA4DAN will be driving to Halifax with a large van full of gear. Pre-DXpedition expenses are significant. We have been informed by both Sable Aviation and Vision Air Services that fuel surcharges will be required. Currently aviation fuel in Halifax is $9.05 for the US gallon equivalent. Additional support will be very helpful and can be made via the CY0S DXpedition website at: https://www.cy0s.com Stand by for the exact DXpedition dates soon! 73, Murray WA4DAN 2022 Sable Island DXpedition Team Leader E5, SOUTH COOK ISLANDS.
