Joanna "JK", 3D2ZK, from Denarau, Nadi, Fiji, posted the following on QRZ.com [edited], "I'm very new to the HAM radio family. Please be patient when you hear me. I finished Jagielonica Law University in Krakow, Poland. I am a living rebel, so I joined forces with Rebel DX Group. My plan is to be active from 3D2/C (Conway Reef), 3D2/R (Rotuma Island) and several rare IOTAs around Fiji from May 2021 for 3-4 months." No QSNs have been reported yet. 4X73/4Z73, ISRAEL (Israel celebrates 73 years of Independence). Jan, 4X1VF, informs OPDX readers, "This year is a very special for the ham radio family all over the world." Special activity will take place during these days using the special callsigns 4X73(XX) and 4Z73(XX). The "XX" will include each operator's last two letters of their private callsign. The activity will start 0600 UTC, April 14th, until Saturday, 2200 UTC, April 17th. QSL connects will be uploaded to LoTW or operators will have their own private QSL cards printed. Some of the operators will use the special callsigns during the "Holyland Contest" that will be taking place in the same weekend. 5W, SAMOA. Hiro, JF1OCQ, is now active as 5W7X (remotely from Japan) from Samoa (OC-097). The length of his activity is not known. Activity will be on all HF bands. QSL via JF1OCQ. See QSL info on QRZ.com. 8Q, MALDIVES. Mats, SM6LRR (RM2D), will be active as 8Q7MS from Ukulhas Island, Alif Alif Atoll (AS-013), between March 28th and April 10th. Activity will be holiday style on mainly 40-15 meters using CW, but with some SSB as well. This is a NON-FT8/FT4 expedition! He states, "Equipment will be decided later, but license is valid for several radios (Lab599 TX-500, Elecraft KX-3 and Kenwood TS 590S), as well as Expert 1.3 K-FA. Antennas will be either Inverted Vees or 1/4-wave verticals on Spider- beam or DX Wire poles. As this is the first time I visited the location, it is still uncertain how signal environment will be. Antennas will be limited to the roof of the building where we will stay, meaning that I am not at all sure which bands I may accommodate. Most likely, no 160/80 meter operation. More information to follow later." QSL info TBD. 9J, ZAMBIA. Bodo, HB9EWU, who is currently on a humanitarian mission to northern Zambia in the Luapula Province (WW Loc. KI40iq) per QRZ.com, is now active as 9J2BG. Activity will be on 20 meters with an end-fed half- wave antenna into Yaesu FT-857. QSL via HB9EWU, direct or by the Bureau. The length of his stay is not known, but he states that QSL cards will only be sent in 2022, when he is back in Switzerland! A4, OMAN. Khalid, A41CK, will be active as A42K (club/contest callsign) during the ARRL DX SSB Contest (March 6-7th) as a Single-Op/All-Band entry. QSL via LoTW and EA5GL. AM3, SPAIN (Special Event). Look for special event stations AM3DIM and AM3YLD to be active between March 6-12th. Activity is to celebrate "Inter- national Women's Day" (March 8th). Operations will be on various HF bands and ECHOLINK. A special certificate is available. See QRZ.com for details. C7, AUSTRIA. QSL Manager Nick, UA3DX, informs OPDX that members of the International Amateur Radio Contest DX Club (ARCDXC - United Nations) will once again be active as C7A during the month of March for the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) which is a specialized agency of the United Nations. They celebrate WMO Day on March 23rd. Activity will be on 160-6 meters including 60/30/17/12 meters using CW, SSB and the Digital modes. Also, look for them to be in the CQWW WPX SSB Contest (March 27-28th). QSL via UA3DX, direct or by the Bureau. ADDED NOTE: Remember this station counts for Austria (OE) for DXCC purposes. DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME (DST). Next weekend it will be time to change your clocks again. Countries in the Northern Hemisphere (most of N. American and some of the Caribbean) who observe Daylight Saving Time should change their clocks on Sunday, March 14th at 2:00 AM, and should move their "local clocks" forward 1 hour to 3:00:00 AM local time. Daylight Saving Time will end on Sunday, November 7th at 2:00 AM. European countries will switch to DST on March 28th. For the history and details about DST, as well as an interesting map of the world (showing the countries who observe DST), see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daylight_saving_time http://www.timeanddate.com/time/dst/2021.html ADDED NOTES: Hopefully, all amateur radio operators know not to change their GMT/UTC/ZULU clocks. However, since most operators usually set their computers to local time, some may have to change their settings on "some" ham radio software (ex. logging, propagation, DXTelnet, etc..) programs. DL21, GERMANY (Special Event). Members of the DARC will activate the special event station DL21EURO during the UEFA (under the age of 21) European Football Championship between March 24th and June 6th. See QRZ.com for more details. QSL via the Bureau or direct to DK5ON. DQ11, GERMANY (WCA Op). Look for the special callsign DQ11WCA to be active until April 17th, from different WCA (World Castle Award Program) and WWFF (World Wide Flora Fauna) areas. All QSOs will be confirmed automatically via the Bureau (you don't need to send your own card). The station also has a special reference number "DOK-WCA11" for the German Amateur Radio Club (DARC) DLD award and of course gives you points for the WCA/COTA award programs. I also have a Kenwood TMV71A for two meters and 70 centimeters, but do not yet have an antenna for 70 cms. My antennas are a TH7-DXX and inverted "V" dipoles for the 75-80, 40, 30, 17, 12 and 6 meter bands. I have a locally made omni-directional antenna for two meters. It is very difficult for me to make even CW contacts on 160 meters, where I use my shorted-out 80 meter dipole as a long wire antenna. In Per? we can only operate on 160 meters between 1.800 and 1.850 MHz. In Per?, the amateur service may only use the lower half of the 75-80 meter band. Due to a regional agreement with several other countries, we can only operate between 3.500 MHz and 3.750 MHz." From the FaceBook page of the United Nations Amateur Radio Club (4U1UN); they posted on March 9th: To all the stations calling but couldn't get through, we apologize. The noise floor at UNHQ is often S9, sometimes +10 over. That's the issue of having a vertical 450 feet up in the middle of Manhattan! 8Q, MALDIVES (Update to OPDX.1507). Visit his Web page at: https://www.ea1bp.com INTERNATIONAL JUBILEE FEATURING SRAL AND FINLAND - WAY UP NORTH (Press Release by Martti, OH2BH, dated March 15th). OH Boy! The Amateur Radio League of Finland (SRAL) is celebrating its 100th Anniversary. Finland is a small, modern Republic of 5 million inhabitants located on the very northern frontier of Europe. Finns live life between the East and the West, belonging to the alliance of the European Union. SRAL's strength lies in having one of the highest membership percentages among the IARU R1 membership societies. So, this is all of us OHs welcoming you to our centennial year activity. EARN THE HIGHEST RECOGNITION FROM YOUR OH FRIENDS -- Just contact 100 (one hundred) of your OH friends during 2021 and 10 (ten) specially featured Finnish stations to earn the OH Northern Light 100-year certi- ficate (OH-NL-100) and the featured story, explaining the magic of the OH-land and the Northern Lights: Your 100 contact should include 50 OH stations and 50 OF stations, a total of 100. A special OF prefix will be launched to all OH stations on September 15th, 2021. Your maximum point value can be 100. The number of your OF/OH contacts. TEN SPECIAL ACTIVITY MULTIPLIERS -- SRAL and its members are active in a wide range of Amateur Radio activities and each of the ten multipliers represent some of those activities. The multiplying stations are: OH100SRAL, OH2A, OH0W, OJ0C, OF2HQ, OH2YOTA, OG2B, OH6SRAL, OI3AX and OF9X. Multiplying your QSO points (maximum 100) by your multiplier value (max 10) will give you your score - maximum of 1000 points. OH Boy! All who score 1000 points and the top-ten continental highest scorers will receive their OH-NL-100 certificate signed by Santa Claus. A special lottery will feature additional special prizes that will be announced later. Your log extract should be sent to the Santa Claus offices at (of9x at sral.fi) during January 2022. The same address will answer all questions relating to this centennial activity. WHAT IS THE STORY ON THESE TEN MULTIPLIERS? OH100SRAL: This is the official SRAL centennial jubilee station which is circulating all year throughout Finland and is activated by SRAL's member societies (120) and special activity groups. OH2A: This is the SRAL HQ station in our capital, Helsinki. It is rarely active internationally but to honor this special year you can catch it occasionally. Surely A is first in the alphabets. OF2HQ: With the country-wide unified SRAL-team it is expected that all of Finland will be active in IARU radio sport, July 10-11th, one way or another. Mid-summer is the time when all OHs smile. OH boy! OH0W: Aland Islands is Finland's share in the DXCC program. But also, the most beautiful archipelago to visit and enjoy. It is home to three HF superstations and the historical battlefield of all OH contesters for once winning the world -- CQWW at OH0W 1982. OJ0C: Market Reef is a rare one with adventure and challenges on right on its doorstep. So many from far and near have experienced DXotica over the barren rock in the midst of stormy seas. It is a dream for landlubbers not to see anything in the horizon. OH2YOTA: The Finnish youth are the movers and shakers in the YOTA move- ment and hosted one of the early ones in Finland. At the core of SRAL activities the theme in Finland is that only youth can communicate with youth. OH Boy! Also, only youth would know what makes them tick!! OG2B: The IARU/NCDXF beacon network has been supported by the SRAL and its dedicated members for almost 40 years. While OH2B is busy at work, the alternative OG2B will be its substitute during this centennial jubilee. Surely you have used the network: www.ncdxf.org.beacon/ OI3AX: Amateur Radio activity in the Finnish Signal Corps (OI prefix) have a brilliant history of cooperation with SRAL. Many well-known OHs have caught the bug while doing their service to their country. OI3AX will represent the country-wide network of 35 OI-locations. OH6SRAL: Every Saturday at 3 PM SRAL transmits its radio news to its entire membership. OH6 is in the middle of the country and has a long history of such transmissions. The chief, Heikki, OH6ZS has done those transmissions for more than 40 years and his dedication to this duty continues. OF9X: Old-Father-Nine-Xmas, has excited the little radio operators and their families for many years from the land of Christmas. Once Santa Claus was pushed to the North Pole but these Santa transmissions from Finland have finally proved that Finland is the same as the North Pole. Thank You, OH Boy! You are most welcome to join the party as you have now made yourself familiar with Finland and SRAL, now celebrating its centennial. The following was posted on the Rebel DX Group's FaceBook page on March 15th [edited]: Hello folks -- Things are going slow during pandemic, but we are going forward with our plans. After visiting South Africa 2 months ago, we can confirm that all equipment is ready for this year's 2021 (November - December) Bouvet operation part 2. We really hope this time wild ocean will cooperate with us. In the mean time we are finally going back to our Rebel vessel located in Fiji. Plans are to go back to Conway Reef for 3 weeks, Rotuma for 3 to 4 weeks and some very rare IOTAs around 3D2 zone. We will be testing some of our new ideas to operate 5 different stations on FT8 (FOX & HUND) at the same time by 1 operator. (NO ROBOTS INVOLVED!!!!) This will be video recorded. Some stationary test went very promising. This (HATE OR LOVE) mode will definitely help some small pistols to get rare DXCCs in to the log. Just to remind you, our last trip to Conway (operated by 2 ops. Tack/ JE1CKA and Dom/3Z9DX) did over 33,828 QSOs in less than 8 days. That is world record for QSO/DAY/Operator (2067 QSOs a day/operator): https://gdxf.de/megadxpeditions/qsosperday.php It means we are going to work DX not for party. And now some very important words from the REBELS.. "Sincere thanks to my OH friends; OH0XX, OH1MA and our Rebel Ambasador OH2BH, who promptly responded my urgent need of amplifiers and released three (3) pcs of Juma 1000 light-weight amplifiers." We had a plan to swap our amplifiers from heavy to light weight type. We got them in less than 3 days from Finland.... Thank you again guys Rebel Dx Team VC3, CANADA. Yuri, VE3DZ, will once again be active as VC3T during both CQWW WPX SSB & CW Contests (SSB March 27-28th/CW May 29-30th) as a Single- Op/All-Band/High-Power or Low-Power entry. QSL via VE3DZ. VI100/VK100, AUSTRALIA (Update/Special Event). The following is a press release by Stuie, VK8NSB, Station Manager VI100AF & VK100AF (dated March 13th) [edited]: "The Royal Australian Air Force - 100 Year Centenary. VK100AF & VI100AF" -- Since both VI100AF & VK100AF hit the airways on March 1st, 2021, 18 of the 46 operators have now used the VI100AF call- sign for a total of 4661 QSOs. 12 of the 46 operators have used the VK100AF callsign for a total of 3612 QSOs. The bands have not been the best, but the operators are working hard to ensure that they are active as much as possible during their allocated period with the specified callsign. Log books are uploaded to OQRS & LoTW the day after each oper- ators allocated time, so please if you see a '' Not in Log '' , try again in a few days' time, but in the meantime work the station again if you're not 100% sure of the QSO. The QSL card is now being finalized with the designer and will be at the printers very soon, we expect to be sending the QSL card out in late April. VK0, ANTARCTICA.
