  The Intrepid-DX Group is seeking nominations for the individual or
group that most displayed their ???Intrepid Spirit??? this past year. The
Intrepid Spirit for purposes of this award is defined as:

  An Intrepid Spirit is bold, courageous, dedicated, innovative, fearless,
generous, resolute and visionary in their approach to Amateur Radio. We
want to recognize those individuals or groups that activated the rare,
difficult and dangerous places.

  We are seeking to make this award to the group or individual that most
displayed their intrepid spirit in 2017, by expressing an unshakable
commitment to the Amateur Radio DX Community.

  This award is made in memory of our friend, James McLaughlin,
WA2EWE/T6AF SK, Kabul Afghanistan, April 27th, 2011.

3B7A ST. BRANDON ISLAND DXPEDITION NEWS. The dates for the 3B7A DXpedition
to St. Brandon Islands (AF-015) have been announced -- April 5-17th. Look
for 8 operators (listed in OPDX.1330) to be active on 160-10 meters using
CW, SSB and RTTY, with five stations on the air. QSL via F5CWU (direct

3W, VIETNAM. Trung, W6TN, is now active as 3W9T throughout Vietnam until
January 11th. Activity will be on 40/20 meters CW. QSL via his home

3Y0Z BOUVET DXPEDITION NEWS (Posted December 28th). "All Dressed Up and
a Place to Go -- Here she is, the Betanzos (see URL below), the ship on
which we will begin our journey to Bouvet in just over two weeks.  It's
been a busy year for this vessel. She's been pulled from the water,
inspected, refurbished and remodeled stem to stern to prepare her for
new life as an Antarctic support vessel, and for our expedition to Bouvet.
  During her previous life in commercial fishing, she was at sea for
months at a time. Her captain of 8 years is still with her, and knows
the Southern Ocean, the ice and his ship very well. Beneath that new
coat of paint lies a rugged vessel manned by an able crew. We'll climb
aboard on January 13, 2018 to begin our voyage to Bouvet.

5W20, SAMOA. To celebrate his 20th anniversary for being on the air,
look for Atsu, 5W1SA, to be active as 5W20SAMOA throughout 2018 on HF
and 6 meters. He has been on Samoa (OC-097) since 1998 and has logged
approximately 100K QSOs. QSL via LoTW (preferred), eQSL after confirm
LoTW or ClubLog's OQRS. Atsu states (about paper QSLs), "After 20 years
operating and living in Samoa, there is not enough budget available for
QSL card printing. If anyone offers me part of cost or actual printed
card, please contact myself or my QSL manager JA1DXA (Katsu) for arrange-
ment."

60 METERS NEWS. Vlada, OK1IVU, reports that radio amateur from the Czech
Republic, as of January 1st, are now allowed 60m band access to the WRC-15
60m amateur secondary allocation of 5351.5 ? 5366.5 kHz under ITU Footnote
5.133B - i.e. with 15W EIRP. 

6K23/DS23/HL23, SOUTH KOREA (Special Event). The Central Radio Manage-
ment Office (CRMO), the Korean Spectrum Management organization, sent
an official letter to Korea Amateur Radio League (KARL) on December 19th,
informing them that they would approve the amateur radio station special
callsigns to promote and support the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic
Games. According to the official letter, all authorized amateur radio
stations in the Republic of Korea will be able to change their area
number in the prefix to "23" between January 1st and February 28th.

  Their instructions and suggestions are as follows:
  * HL1XXX --> HL23XXX
  * DS1XXX, DS2XXX ....  DS5XXX --> DS23XXX/1, DS23XXX/2 ....  DS23XXX/5
  * Whole club stations (Area number 0) like HL0XX, DS0XX, 6K0XX etc.,
     --> HL23XX, DS23XXX, 6K23XX

  For example, HL0HQ can be operated as HL23HQ, HL1VAU as HL23VAU, DS4NYE
  as DS23NYE/4, and D70LW as D723LW.

  The already announced HL0WOP and DT23WOP will continue to operate until
February 28th. Don't be surprised if you encounter these callsigns on
the air or DXclusters, and they hope all their radio friends around the
world be able to get many QSOs with these special event stations.

6O, SOMALIA. Operators Ken/LA7GIA and Adrian/KO8SCA continue to be active
as 6O6O from Somalia until January 16th. Activity will be on 160-10 meters
using CW, SSB, RTTY and FT8. They seem to have Internet access available
at their site because they are posting QSOs to ClubLog and LoTW. Paper
QSL cards are via M0OXO and his OQRS. 
  JUST A REMINDER: Adrian informs OPDX that Somalia is a country ravaged
by poverty and war, but it is slowly returning to normal. Their DXpedition
will also have a humanitarian aspect. Both Ken and Adrian will pay for all
the DXpedition expenses. All money raised during the DXpedition will go to
the not-for-profit Doctors Without Borders (DWOB) [see the following Web
page  <(http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org>] which recently returned to
Somalia <see http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/country-region/somalia>
after an absence of a few years. They have also set up a dedicated PayPal
address for these donations <6o6o at la7gia.com>. Closing date for donations
is February 1st, 2018, when donations will be wire transferred to DWOB.

9Z4, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO. Thomas, DL9OBQ, is now active as 9Z4/DL9OBQ
from Saint Augustine, Trinidad Island (SA-011), until February 7th, 2018.
Activity will be on 30/17/15 meters using mostly CW. QSL via his home
callsign by the Bureau.

6Y, JAMAICA (Reminder/Update). Members of the JA3 DX Vacation Group will
be active as 6Y6J from Southfield at Josh's, 6Y5WJ, St. Elizabeth QTH
between January 11-22nd. Operators mentioned are Shozo/JA3HJI, Tsuguya/
JA3UJR, Kunio/JH3LSS, Munekazu/JI3DNN and Masumi/JA3AVO. Activity will
be on 160-6 meters using CW, SSB and the Digital modes. QSL via JA3AVO,

6Y, JAMAICA. Yuri, VE3DZ, is once again active as 6Y2T from Jamaica
(NA-097) between February 13-20th. Activity will include the ARRL
International DX CW Contest (February 17-18th) as a Single-Op/All-Band/
High-Power entry. Operations outside of the contest will be on 160-10
meters, including the 30/17/12 meter bands and using CW, SSB and RTTY.
QSL via VE3DZ.

9Y4, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO ISLANDS. Operators Anna/W6NN and Rich/KE1B will
be active as 9Y4/W6NN and 9Y4/KE1B, respectively, from Tobago Island
(SA-009) between March 18-31st. Activity will be on 40-10 meters using
CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK. They also plan to be in the CQWW WPX SSB Contest
(March 24-25th) as a Multi-Single entry. QSL 9Y4/W6NN via W6NN or LoTW.
QSL 9Y4/KE1B via KE1B or LoTW.

A5, BHUTAN. Pat, N2IEN, is now active as A52PD from Bhutan until January
14th. He is expected to be moving around the country with a FT-991A, a
TWA and Buddipole. Activity will be on various HF bands using mostly CW
and the Digital modes. Pat states, "I will try to do 80 meters, but may
depend on the situation at each QTH." QSL via NR6M, direct or LoTW.

A7, QATAR. Look for Alain, F6BFH, to be active as A7/F6BFH until January
12th. Activity will be on various HF bands. QSL via F6BFH.

C8, MOZAMBIQUE (IOTA Op). Operators Johannes/PA5X (C93PA) and Gerben/PG5M
will be active as C8X and C81G, respectively, from Ibu Island, Mozambique,
between January 28th and February 4th. Ibu Island is in the Cabo Delgado
District IOTA group and counts for AF-061. Activity will be on 80-10
meters, including 60 meters and using modes CW, SSB and FT8. Equipment
will be FT-5000 and Elecraft K3, Acom1010 and Expert 1.3K-FA, 5-band
Hexbeam with pentaplexer, 40/60/80m verticals and 30m VDA. They will
upload logs several times a day (internet permitting) to ClubLog (the
preferred method). QSL C8X via PA5X, and C81G via PG5M or his OQRS at

C8, MOZAMBIQUE. The Belgian Lions DX-Team (OT8T) are proud to announce
their new adventure/DXpedition to Mozambique between May 2-15th. Their
planning has been completed, and the preparations are well advanced.
The location is ready for them and their flight tickets have been booked.
The team of 14 operators has been selected and are all hungry to work
the pile-ups! Their callsign and full license has arrived and it is C8T.
Activity will be on 160-10 meters using CW, SSB, RTTY and possibly other
Digital modes (PSK, FT8). The team will also do 2m-EME(ATNO) and 60m(ATNO).
They have the permission to do 60m by the IARU-Region1-bandplan(15W EIRP).
Their setup will consist of 4 stations operating 24/7 and a fifth station
for 2m EME and extra Digi-modes on all bands. Operators mentioned are
Kurt/ON8KW (Team Leader), Roger/ON7TQ (Co-leader), Bruno/CS8ABG (Co-leader),
Paulo/CU2CO, Emil/DL8JJ, Ron/ON1DX, Philippe/ON4ACP, Marc/ON4AMX, Erik/

C96/C98, MOZAMBIQUE (2 IOTA Op). Members of the Russian Robinson Club
(RRC) will be active as C96RRC (AF-088) and C98RRC (AF-066). Operators
mentioned are Vasily/R7AL, Vasily/RA1ZZ, Al/RZ3K and Vlad/RK8A. The
pilot station will be Victor, UA3AKO. Their tentative schedule is as
follows:
  April 29th-May 3rd - From Mozambique Island (AF-088) as C96RRC
  May 5-9th          - From Inhaca Island (AF-066) as C98RRC

  Activity will be on 40/30/20/17/15/10 meters using CW, SSB and the

In 2018 the RRC is celebrating their 25th anniversary of "Russian Robinson
Club".

CE0Y, EASTER ISLANDS. Michael, DF8AN, will once again be active as
CE0Y/DF8AN from Easter Island (SA-001) between February 21-28th. Activity
will be on various HF bands using CW and the Digital modes. QSL via his
home callsign, direct, by the Bureau or eQSL. NO LoTW.

CN, MOROCCO. Operators Manfred/DK1BT, Wolf/DL4WK, Sigi/DL7DF and Frank/
DL7UFR will be active as CN2DF and CN2FR from Tahazout between February
13-20th. Activity will be on 160-10 meters using CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK31,
with two stations on the air. Pilot for this DXpedition is Bernd, DF3CB.

ERITREA 2018 DXPEDITION (Press Release). [edited] "E31A The FGC Radio
Team will active from Eritrea between 14-23 JAN 2018" -- Operators Zorro,
JH1AJT, will travel to Asmara, Eritrea, with Franz/DJ9ZB, Dima/RA9USU,
Yan/RZ3FW and Champ/E21EIC. They will be on CW, SSB and RTTY on 160m-6m.
Main purpose of this trip is to support the Eritrea National Olympic
Committee (E.N.O.C). The SEISA's group will "coordinate pre-game training
camp" for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and select students for a
scholarship program at the SEISA Kokusai Junior High School and University.

SILENT KEY. It is with great sadness to report that well-known DXer/
Contester David Collingham, K3LP, has become a Silent Key (SK) at the
age of 59. Paul Ewing, N6PSE, reports that David, on Friday night, January
5th, let his dog outside. When the dog not return, Dave went out in his
truck to search his 25 acre property for the dog. He found that his dog
had fallen through an icy pond and tried to make a heroic rescue to save
his dog. After some time had passed, Dave?s wife Rebecca went looking for
him. She found the truck at the pond and then called 911. Fire personal
recovered David's body as well as his dog. Efforts to resuscitate him
were unsuccessful.
  DX-World mentions, "David had been on over 70 DXpeditions, visited over
100 different DXCC entities, operating from 62 of them. He was a leader
or co-leader on over 14 major DXpeditions. He was inducted as a member
of the CQDX Hall of Fame in 2014. In addition, he activated Most Wanted
DXCC Entities; 8 of the Top 10 and 16 of the Top 50. Over the last twenty
years, he had supported numerous youth education and development projects,
and youth sports."

Guanacaste Province during the ARRL International DX CW Contest (February

TM15AAW, FRANCE (Special Event). Look for special event station TM15AAW
to be on air during February. Activity is to celebrate the 15th Antarctic

V3, BELIZE. Art, NN7A, will be active as V31JZ/p from South Water Caye,
Belize (NA-180), between February 8-14th. This will be a one-person

VI70, AUSTRALIA (Special Event). Look for Lee, VK3GK, to be active as
VI70HI, a special callsign issued to commemorate the first ANARE Expedition
to Heard Island in December 1947, until February 28th, and he will also be
in the 15th Antarctic Activity Week (February 17-25th). Activity will be
on all HF bands, 160-10 meters, using CW, SSB, RTTY and possibly the

3Y0Z BOUVET DXPEDITION NEWS (Posted January 9th). YOUR INVITATION TO
FOLLOW US [edited] -- The 3Y0Z team will be using a Garmin (formerly
DeLorme) InReach SE satellite tracking device that will enable you to
follow along with us and see our travel route on a near-real time map
as we journey to the "Most Remote Place on Earth."
  Hal, W8HC, will activate an InReach SE when he leaves his WV QTH January
9th and will leave it "on" during the trip (while moving) until the team
is on Bouvet Island.
  This device uses Iridium satellite technology and is set to send a
"way point" along the route every 30 minutes. These points will show up
on our Bouvet "MapShare" website, as we travel to Chile and eastward on
our vessel, the Betanzos on the 10-12 day journey across the South Atlantic,
and onto our ultimate destination ? Bouvet Island.
  If all is working properly, and the device has good visibility with the
satellites, our MapShare viewers will be able to see our current position,
including GPS coordinates and speed.  You will be able to enjoy the full
resolution capabilities with Topo and Aerial view options provided and
can toggle-in and toggle-out of the website?s detailed Google map.
  In addition to the MapShare, we will be using the InReach device to
send messages along the way to provide updates and important information.
These messages will show up on the MapShare route as small blue rectangular
boxes, which viewers can click to read.
  We will also have the option to post messages to our social media outlets

3Y0Z BOUVET DXPEDITION NEWS (Press Release #11, dated January 13th).
  Heavy sea ice east and north of King George Island has made navigation
between King George Island and Bouvet slow and of increased risk.  We
will therefore depart from Punta Arenas and sail directly to Bouvet.
This has necessitated changes to preparations. That process is underway
and moving as fast as possible.
  Our sailing time to Bouvet is now estimated at 14 days. We estimate
that our sailing date and QRV date will move back 24 to 36 hours.  Our
QRT date will be extended as necessary to provide everyone with the best
possible chance of working Bouvet.

(ARCDXC) [4U1A] will be active with special callsign 4U0R from the Vienna
International Center, Austria, for the "World Radio Day" (February 13th)
between February 13-20th. Activity will be on various HF bands using CW

7Q, MALAWI. John, N6JW, is now (since January 4th) active as 7Q7JW.

A7, QATAR. Members of the Lufthansa Amateur Radio Club (LARC) in co-
operation with the Qatar Amateur Radio Society (QARS - A71A) are once
again active as A71DLH until January 17th. Their activity will be on
all bands using CW, SSB and the Digital modes. Operators for this year's
2018 operation are Mustapha/DL1BDF, Wolfgang/DK2DO and Michael/DF4HRT.

DP0, ANTARCTICA. Matthias, DH5CW, will be active as DP0GVN from the

FG/TO7, GUADELOUPE. Jean-Pierre, F6ITD, will once again be active as
FG/F6ITD from Guadeloupe and one of its islands between January 29th
and March 15th. Island mentioned is La Desirade Island (IOTA NA-102,
Lighthouse GUA005 and French Flora Faune FFF 1000). Activity will be on
all HF bands (160-6m) using CW, SSB and the Digital modes. Look for him
to use the callsign TO7D during some contests. Radio equipment is a
FT-450D + Tokyo 550 Power 500w. QSL via his home callsign, direct or

FG/TO3, GUADELOUPE. Operators Michel/F6GWV and Gildas/F6HMQ will be
active as FG/homecall between February 23rd and March 12th. Activity
will be holiday style on various HF bands using "light equipment". They
will also be in the ARRL Inter. DX SSB Contest (March 3-4th) using the

HAMVENTION NEWS (SWODXA DX DINNER). The SouthWest Ohio DX Association
(SWODXA) is pleased to announce that we will again sponsor the DX Dinner,
held in conjunction with the 2018 Dayton Hamvention. This, our 33rd
annual dinner, will be on Friday, May 18, 2018, at the Dayton Marriott,
1414 S. Patterson Blvd., Dayton, OH 45409. Among other great prizes,
Yaesu has generously donated an FT DX-3000 to the DX Dinner and an FT-DX1200
to the DX forum! There will be a cash bar starting at 5:30 p.m., with
dinner served at 7:00. Following the event, there will be a separate
room and cash bar available for more fellowship. This is an excellent
opportunity to meet new hams and to renew old acquaintances as well as
to learn about past DXpeditions and those in the planning stages. The
Marriott is very accommodating to a group our size. The dining room is
on the ground floor so there are no steps, the dining room is very large,
and there is ample free, on-site parking. This dinner is always well
attended by some of the most avid DXers in the world. The 2017 dinner
had over 400 attendees! As in the past, there will be some major door
prizes, and there is always great anticipation as to who will be named
the "DXpedition of the Year". We have started accepting ticket requests

    * Craig, VK5CE, will activate three IOTA in Western Australia as

ITALIAN SPECIAL EVENT. As of January 1st through November 11th, look for
many Italian special event stations (and they do mean many - too many to
list) with special two letter suffixes representing a ship of the Italian
Royal Navy that in 1918 were engaged in the Adriatic Sea in the First World
War. These stations are operating for a diploma called "Award Regia Marina".
There is a list of more than 70 accredited ARMI stations, 10 Jolly IQ
stations, and a special (super Jolly) II7WWI station that qualify for
the three awards (Gold, Silver and Bronze) and a Top Honor Plaque. The

SILENT KEY. Peter, HB9PL, informs OPDX: "It is with great sadness to
inform the international DX fraternity that Dr. Hans-Rudolf "Rudi" Lauber,
HB9RG, passed away December 26, 2017, at the age of 92. Rudi was a multi-
faceted ham and active in many different disciplines of our hobby. He not
only had an astonishing score of first VHF/UHF contacts between Switzer-
land and the rest of Europe as well as beyond, but was initiator, sponsor
and driving wheel of a group of enthusiast who in the second half of the
50ties realized the first EME QSOs out of Switzerland. During the last

TX5, FRENCH POLYNESIA (Updated). Operators Bill/KH6OO and Will/W0ZRJ (son)
will be active as TX5X from the north shore of Mt. Orohena on the island
of Tahiti (OC-046) between March 10-17th. Activity will be on various HF
bands using one 100w station (Flex 6700) into a vertical dipole. Modes
will be CW, FT8, JT9 and JT65. All QSOs will be uploaded to LoTW, eQSL,
QRZ.com and ClubLog (OQRS) at the completion of their trip. In addition,
EVERYONE in the log will be sent a QSL via their Bureau. Please do not
send them Bureau cards. Read "Tips to get into our log" on QRZ.com.

TY, BENIN (Update). Members of the F6KOP team, the Provins ARC, will be
active from B?nin between March 7-18th, 2018. Callsign is still pending.
There will be an international team of 12 operators lead by Jean-Luc,
F1ULQ. The other operators mentioned are Damien/F4AZF (Co-leader), Jo/
DJ3CQ, Arno/DL1CW, Andreas/DL3GA, Henri/F1HRE, Raymond/F5MFV, Xavier/
F5NTZ, Philipp/OE7PGI and possibly two others. Frank/F4AJQ is the team
pilot station. Plans are to be active with 4 stations on the air, 160-10
meters using CW, SSB and the Digital modes (RTTY,PSK and FT8). QSL via

V3, BELIZE. Iain, G4SGX, will once again be active as V31GX from Ambergris
Caye (NA-073) between March 6-16th. Activity will be holiday style on 80-6
meters using mainly CW, and possibly some Digital modes (FT8). Iain will
also participate in the Commonwealth Contest (Beru) [March 10-11th]. He
will run 100 watts into 1/4 verticals over seawater and inverted-L over
seawater for 80m. QSL via his home callsign, ClubLog or LoTW.

V4, ST. KITTS. After Bernie, K3UR (V47UR), operates from here between
January 29th and February 12th (see OPDX.1342), look for John, W5JON,
to once again be active as V47JA between February 13th and March 16th.
Activity will be on 160-6 meters (incl. 60m) using SSB. Equipment is a
Yaesu FT-1000MP and Elecraft KPA500 Amplifier. Antennas: a 31', 10-40m
Vertical, 35', 40/80m Top Loaded Vertical, 20m dipole, 160m base load
vertiacal and a 6m 4 element Yagi. ALL QSLs go to W5JON direct or via
LoTW. NO Bureau QSLs.

VP6D DUCIE DXPEDITION NEWS. Vadym, UT6UD, has joined the VP6D team for
the Ducie Island DXpedition which is to take place between October 20th
and November 3rd. Vadym has been an active operator on 160 meters and
was part of the 2016 Heard Island team. Read about him at:

YJ, VANUATU. Grant, VK5GR, announced this past week that he is "planning
another holiday style DXPedition for 2018" with his family on Efate (OC-035)
between April 17-29th. He hopes to operate as YJ0AG (waiting to receive
the license). Activity will be on 80-10 meters using mostly the Digital
modes (RTTY, FT8, PSK, Olivia) as well as SSB and some SSTV, possibly CW.
Grant states, "I am looking to particularly work unique stations and will
be where possible targeting Europe Short Path where YJ is high on the
ClubLog most wanted list. Operation will of course be intermittent as
again family comes first but I will attempt to operate during the main
openings (EU SP at night will be a feature). The station will be a K3/KPA500
combination with a G3TXQ UltraLight HexBeam for 20-10m plus a multi-band
vertical for 80-10m (with water access along the EU SP and NA LP paths)...
... I also hope to operate in the SPDX RTTY Contest." QSL will again be
managed by M0OXO through his OQRS service for electronically requested

3B7A ST. BRANDON ISLAND DXPEDITION NEWS (Press Release #5)[edited]. An
updated most wanted list has been published on Clublog. It now shows Saint
Brandon as the 27th most wanted entity worldwide (#19 NA, #17 SA, #33 AS,
#28 OC, #34 AF, #48 EU). This statistics clearly confirms the relevance
of our DXpedition, we knew the demand to be high more than 10 years after
3B7C.
  Same as with our previous projects, we know a flawless preparation is
the key of the success. We are now working carefully on propagation fore-
cast. Of course our experience of this area is a big advantage, we know
some specifics tips, possible openings, etc. This forecasts will drive
our operations from the first to the very last day, giving priority to
the area with the shortest and most difficult conditions.
  We would like to thanks our pilot team: Bjorn/ON9CFG, Paul/N6PSE,
Javi/LU5FF, Joe/JJ3PRT, and our "chief pilot" Michel/F6AGM (ex-FM5CD).
Please share your experience and all interesting information with your
local pilot during the expedition. We will be in touch with them on a
daily basis thanks to our satellite phone.
  The pilots will NOT have access to the logs! Questions related to your

3W, VIETNAM. Charles, W0DLE, will be active as 3W9DLE from Saigon for
90 days between February and April. Activity will be mainly 20 meters
using CW, SSB and FT8, as well as entries in the ARRL International CW
DX Contest (February 17-18th) and Russian DX CW Contest (March 17-18th).

3Y0Z BOUVET DXPEDITION NEWS (Press Release #12, dated January 16th).
  Preparation for our departure continues, albeit at a somewhat slower
pace than we had hoped. However, the vessel is now fully fueled and all
our DXpedition gear, food, and medical and survival gear is aboard. And,
you have likely read that team members completed their cold water survival,
CPR, and fire-fighting training.
  Two team leaders and our merchant marine captain team member (W7IV)
have been aboard the vessel. They observed the crew and contractors
working hard to complete their projects.
  We are awaiting final clearance to sail which will be issued by the
Chilean Navy, the regulatory authority for maritime safety.
  We remain confident in our success and are anxiously waiting to get
underway. Whatever delay we encounter will not impact our results on the
island.

3Y0Z BOUVET DXPEDITION NEWS (Posted on the Web, January 20th): We had an
uneventful traverse of the Straits of Magellan, and are currently just
southeast of the Falkland Islands, making approximately 11 knots. At the
moment, we have fair winds and following seas, and our weather forecast
looks good for the next 12 hours. However, the weather can change quickly
in this part of the world.
  Our team is in good spirits, but one or two are feeling the effects of
moderate seasickness. We have one maritime mobile station active, with
most of our QSOs on 20 and 40m. We are running 100 watts to a Hustler
vertical on the bow of the ship and an OCF dipole hung from the bridge
area. Our transmissions include grid square information. We hope to add
a second station, soon.

AFRICAN TOUR. Sadao, JA1PBV, is currently active as 9X2S from Kigali,
Rwanda until January 23rd. From there he will travel back to Entebbe,
Uganda, and be active as 5X2S until January 29th, before heading home.
Activity from both places have been on 20/17 meters using CW and FT8.

AX, AUSTRALIA (Special Event). The Australian Communications and Media
Authority (ACMA) automatically allows all radio amateurs to substitute
their normal VK callsign prefix with the letters AX, every Australia Day.
Their national day this year falls on Friday 26th of January. This gives
radio amateurs the chance to be part of the commemoration the First Fleet's
arrival in 1788 at Sydney Gove and the establishment of a European settle-
ment at Port Jackson, with the raising of the British flag by Governor
Arthur Phillip. The AX prefix is popular among prefix hunters and others.
The use of a special QSL card is encouraged by the Wireless Institute of
Australia. 

C6, BAHAMAS. Tim, AF1G, is once again active as C6ATH from Andros Island
(NA-001) between January 8, 2018, and until further notice. Tim lives
and works in the Bahamas and expects to be there for a couple of years.
Activity will primarily be on weekends, holidays, and some evenings during

C6A, THE BAHAMAS. Brian, VE3BWP, is now active as VE3BWP/C6A from Paradise
Island (NA-001) until January 25th. Activity will be on 40/30/20/17/10
meters using SSB, FT8 and PSK31. QSL via his home callsign or LoTW.

C96/C98, MOZAMBIQUE (2 IOTA Op/Update). Members of the Russian Robinson
Club (RRC) will be active as C96RRC (AF-088) and C98RRC (AF-066). Operators
mentioned are Vasily/R7AL, Vasily/RA1ZZ, Al/RZ3K, Vlad/RK8A and Aleksei/ 
RN3BZ. The pilot station will be Victor, UA3AKO. Their tentative schedule
is as follows:
  April 29th-May 3rd - From Mozambique Island (AF-088) as C96RRC
  May 5-9th          - From Inhaca Island (AF-066) as C98RRC

  Activity will be on 40/30/20/17/15/10 meters using CW, SSB and the

In 2018 the RRC is celebrating their 25th anniversary of "Russian Robinson

CO9, CUBA (Special Event). Radio club station, CO9KAA, from Las Tunas
Province is on the air celebrating the Cuban National Baseball Champion-
ship final play-off where the Las Tunas team is included for the very
first time in their history. Operation started Saturday, January 20th,
and will be on until one champion would be defined in a series of seven
games. Activity will be on CW/SSB, but only on 40 and 20 meters due
antennas availabilities at the radio club's station. Those who work
CO9KAA on both modes will receive a certificate in digital format. The
winner of this match between Las Tunas and Granma will take part in the

CR2/CT8, AZORES. Hermann, HB9CRV, will be active as CU8FN from Flores
Island (EU-089) between January 22nd and February 16th. Activity will
be on 160-10 meters using mainly FT8. Antonio, CU8AS, will join Hermann
to participate in the CQWW 160 Meter CW Contest (January 26-28th) as
CR2W. QSL CR2W and CU8FN via LoTW, or via HB9CRV, direct or by the
Bureau.

DXCC NEWS (New Criterion for Political Entities). Thanks to "The Daily DX"
for sending out the following report [edited]:
  Starting after the ARRL Board meeting today (January 20, 2018) a new
  DXCC criterion will be added to Section II for Political Entities
  (point 1). Currently there are three criteria for Political Entities.
  If any one of the following three criteria are met the entity qualifies
  as a Political Entity on the DXCC list:

   1) United Nations Member State
   2) Prefix is on ITU callsign prefix block
   3) "The entity contains a permanent population, is administered by a
      local government, and is located at least 800 km from its parent.
      To satisfy the "permanent population" and "administered by a local
      government" criteria of this sub-section, an Entity must be listed
      on either (a) the U.S. Department of State's list of "Dependencies
      and Areas of Special Sovereignty" <https://www.state.gov/s/inr/rls/10543.htm>
      as having a local "Administrative Center," or (b) the United Nations
      list of "Non-Self-Governing Territories.

  The new criterion, which goes into effect after the BOD meeting, will be
  if the potential entity is a member society of the IARU 
  <http://www.iaru.org/member-societies.html> and is listed on the United
  States Department of State Independent States of the World list
  <https://www.state.gov/s/inr/rls/4250.htm>. The Entity must be on both
  lists in order to qualify as a Political Entity. QRX for the exact timing
  that the new rule will go into effect.

ERITREA 2018 DXPEDITION NEWS. Zorro, JH1AJT, and the E31A FGC Radio Team
will continue until 1200z January 22nd. Zorro, JH1AJT, continues to make
plenty of QSOs on FT8. While Dima/RA9USU and Yan/RZ3FW operate on 160
meters.  QSL via JH1AJT.

FM/TO5, MARTINIQUE (NA-107). Albert, F5VHJ, will once again be active as
TO5A from FM5BH's QTH during the ARRL International DX SSB Contest (March
3-4th) as a Single-Op/All-Band/High-Power entry. QSL with SASE to WA6WPG.
All others by F5VHJ, LoTW and the REF Bureau. Logs will be uploaded to
LoTW. An OQRS will be available via ClubLog.

H7, NICARAGUA. Operators Jim/WB2REM and Mark/WY1G will be active as H7DX
from Granada, Nicaragua, between February 26th and March 6th. Activity
will be on various HF bands using CW, SSB, and FT8. QSL via WY1G, direct

H84, PANAMA (Also H7). Operators Mek/SP7VC and Kasia/SQ7OYL will be active
as H84VC from Panama between January 24th and February 4th. Activity will
be on various HF bands (possible 60m) using SSB and FT8. During their
time on Panama, the operators will make a quick trip to Nicaragua between
January 30th and February 3rd, and be active as H7/SP7VC. They will use
an IC-7300 with a PA-500W amp into a vertical for 40-15m and an Inverted-L
for 160/80m. QSL both callsigns via SP7VC, ClubLog or LoTW. For possible

  AS-105.  By the time you read this, HL23N should be active from Yonghung
           Island until January 21st. Activity is to coincide with the
           Pyeong Chang Winter Olympic Games, South Korea. Operations
           will be on 80-10 meters using CW, SSB and the Digital modes.

  AS-126.  Operators "Off"/E23CAL, Noi/HS3NBR, Chanachon/HS8GKR, "X"/HS8JCV,
           Boy/HS8GLR, Chana/HS9HK, HS9JZT and Chayakorn/HS9STL will be
           active as HS8JCV/P from Lipe Island between March 29th and
           April 2nd. Activity will be on various HF bands. QSL via HS8JCV.

  EU-038.  Operators Jef/DD2CW and PA3AXC will be active as PA/DD2CW
           (or possibly a special IOTA callsign which has been requested)
           from Texel Island during the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 28-29th)
           as a Multi-Op/Mixed-Mode/24-Hrs entry. QSL via ON3UN.

  EU-090.  Members of the Radio Club Croatian Flora Fauna will be active
           as 9A90P (9A ninety P) from the Island of Vela Palagruza
           (CI-084, LH 0057, no 9AFF reference yet) between June 16-23rd.
           Some of the  members will also try to operate under their home
           callsign from neighboring islands: Mala Palagruza (EU-090,
           CI-461) and Galijula Island (EU-090, CI-462, 3NM southeast of
           Palagru?a). Operators mentioned are: Emir/9A6AA, Radovan/9A2SC,
           Boris/9A2GA, Ico/9A2KI, Marijan/9A1MB, Zeljko/9A3DF, Vito/9A3GSV

The Intrepid-DX Group wishes to memorialize our friend, Co-Founder and
President, David R. Collingham-K3LP.
  In recognition of David's humanitarian work as well as service to man-
kind, we are creating an annual David R. Collingham - K3LP Humanitarian
and Service Award.
  The purpose of this award is to recognize an individual or group for

JD1, OGASAWARA. Kazu, JD1BNA (ex-JK1FXI), will be active from Hahajima
(Mother) Island (AS-031) between February 2-5th. Activity will be mainly
on 160/80/40 meters using mostly CW. QSL via JL1UTS, direct only.

K3, UNITED STATES (Special Event). Look for the annual "Ground Hog Day
Special Event Station", K3HWJ, to be active on Saturday, February 4th,
around 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (EST) or possibly later, depending upon
band conditions at that time. Suggested frequencies are: 40 meters on
or about 7245 kHz (+/- about 5 kHz) or 20 meters on or about 14340 kHz
(+/- about 5 kHz). 80 meters is a possible "backup", but is not planned
at this time. They will offer a certificate for a "SASE" (self addressed
stamped envelope) and mail it to: Punxsutawney Area Amateur Radio Club,
Groundhog Contact No. ___, P.O. Box 3, Punxsutawney, Pa. 15767. PLEASE
NOTE: Put your contact number in the "___" above. This will help them
a lot to process your certificate. Also, certificates should be all

KH1/KH7Z BAKER ISLAND DXPEDITION NEWS (Press Release by Don/N1DG, dated
January 16th). The Dateline DX Association is pleased to announce major
equipment support from Elecraft, DX Engineering, and SteppIR Communi-
cations Systems for its KH1/KH7Z Baker Island 2018 DXpedition.
  For the KH1/KH7Z operation, Elecraft will supply the highly reliable
K3S transceivers and their matching KPA500 amplifiers. These radios are
veterans of several highly successful major DXpeditions and will greatly
aid our goal of many ATNO contacts.
  Our use permit for access to the Baker National Wildlife Refuge restricts
the type and height of antennas we can use for KH1/KH7Z. SteppIR Commun-
ications Systems is working with team member George Wallner, AA7JV, with
antennas that are acceptable to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
  Every operation of this size needs a large number of critical equip-
ment items suitable for island operation. DX Engineering has stepped up
to offer those items on an as needed basis. DX Engineering continues to
support major DXpeditions, and is a quality supplier of everything needed
for the Amateur Radio community.
  KH1 is the 4th most wanted entity. Our plans are to bring the KH1 entity
to as many operators, and countries as we can. Support from these equipment
vendors is appreciated and helps us meet our QSO goals. As with any DX-
pedition to the really rare ones, this will be another large budget oper-
ation. The operator team will contribute over 50% of the expected budget

Honolulu (OC-019) between January 21-25th. Activity will be on 40-10

NH7, HAWAII. Albert, NH7A/F5VHJ, will be active as NH7A from Keaau during
the CQWW WPX SSB Contest (March 24-25th) as a Single-Op/All-Band/High-

OJ0, MARKET REEF. Col, MM0NDX, of DX-World.net, plans to be active as

OR4, BELGIUM. Javier Roldan, EA1HEO, President of the ESOC Radioclub
(DL0ESA), is now activating OR4ESA from the European Space Agency (ESA)
[the Redu Ground Station in Belgium] since January 16th and only until
February 6th. Activity will be limited (after work between 1700-2200z)
on 80/40/20 meters bands using SSB and the Digital modes (mainly PSK31
and RTTY). Taking advantage of his visit to the site while during one
of their 15m dish S-Band antenna refurbishment. Paper QSL via DL0ESA

PJ2, CURACAO. Jeff, K8ND, continues to be active from Curacao Island

will team up as a Multi-Single entry in the CQWW 160 CW Contest (January

Amendment to ARRL DXCC Rules Will Expand DXCC List:

01/23/2018
  The ARRL Board of Directors approved a motion to amend the DXCC Rules,
when it met January 19-20. Section II, Subsection 1 of the DXCC Rules
now will include a new Subsection (d): The entity has a separate IARU
member society and is included on the US State Department Independent
States in the World.
  "The discussion during the Board meeting and the rule change did not
address any specific entity," ARRL Radiosport Manager Norm Fusaro, W3IZ,
said. "The amendment could allow some additions to the current DXCC List
of entities. It's a good thing not only for DXCC but for all active hams.
  In fact, the Republic of Kosovo (Z6) has been added to the DXCC List
of current entities, increasing the total number of current DXCC entities
to 340. The addition of Kosovo raises to 331 the required number of current
entities confirmed to qualify for DXCC Honor Roll; Top of Honor Roll is
340. DXCC award accounts are being tabulated to reflect the change.
  This change qualifies as an "event," effective on January 21, 2018,
at 0000 UTC. Nothing is retroactive.
  A new Logbook of The World (LoTW) TQSL configuration file (v.11.4)
will be released on January 23. TQSL will detect when this file has been
released and will install the update automatically. Radio Amateurs outside
of Kosovo should continue to upload their logs to LoTW in the usual manner.
LoTW users within Kososvo (either with a Z6 call sign or reciprocal call
sign Z6/<home call sign>) will use TQSL to request a new call sign certi-
ficate for their call sign. The request will use Republic of Kososvo as
the DXCC entity, and the QSO Begin date will be January 21 or later. LoTW
will reject call sign certificate requests for the Republic of Kosovo with
a QSO Begin date prior to January 21. Z6 users requesting call sign certi-
ficates may e-mail a copy of their Amateur Radio license.
  Kosovo's IARU member society SHRAK and its president Vjollca Caka, Z61VB,
are hosting a 10th-anniversary activation to celebrate Kosovo???s indepen-
dence in February, 2008. SHRAK Headquarters station Z60A now is active on
several bands with multiple guest operators. Club Log will be used for
this activation, while QSLs are via OH2BH.

REPUBLIC OF KOSOVO ACTIVE TODAY -- Z60A TEAM ALREADY ON THE GROUND
(Press Release by Wayne, N7NG, dated January 23rd). Kosovo's IARU Society
SHARK, and its president Vjollca Caka, Z61VB, are hosting a tenth anni-
versary activation celebrating Kosovo's independence, February, 2008.
  The activation has already started, with Z60A being found on several
bands. Adding to their HQ location is a semi-permanent low-band site.
Both sites have beam antennas plus four K3s and SPE 1.3KW amps. Olli,
OH0XX, has been testing the propagation over the past two days with
good -- but narrow -- U.S openings.
  An international team has been invited to Kosovo and is partially on
the ground at this time. The team consists of DL3DXX, OH0XX, OH1MA, OH2BH,
OH3JR, OZ1IKY, S50A and S51F, along with locals Z61DX, Z61FF, Z61VB, Z62FB
and Z63DBB. Additional locals are behind this activity as well, and a new
2nd week team will be announced soon.
  Jim, K9JF, ARRL Hon. Vice-President and Hans, PB2T, IARU R1 secretary
will add to the party.
  The ARRL Rocky Mountain Division director, Dwayne Allen, WY7FD has
informed the team that the LoTW and the other ARRL structures are being
put into place to receive this new DXCC country contacts. Already,
"Republic of Kosovo" is listed in the DXCC Challenge pages.
  ClubLog will be used for this activation, while QSLs will go via OH2BH.

QSL VIA N2OO NEWS. Bob Schenck, N2OO, informs OPDX, "With the 3Y0Z QSL
project fast approaching, now would be a good time to request any other
QSLs that I handle. Once the 3Y0Z and 3G9A/MM mail starts up, all other
QSL operations here will be delayed. For a full list of who I handle and
how to request cards, go to the QRZ page for N2OO. Also, if you add cards
with your 3Y0Z mail for other calls, your return mail will be delayed.

3Y0Z BOUVET DXPEDITION NEWS (From 3Y0Z Web page). As this was being
written, the 3Y0Z team aboard the MV Betanzos has passed South Georgia
& South Sandwich Islands, and is half way between those islands and
Bouvet Island. The following are from this past Saturday/Sunday's reports
by two 3Y0Z team members:
  * January 27th, 0120 UTC: Thursday night, our weather took a major
    turn for the worse, as we were overtaken by a low pressure system
    with winds about 35 knots and confused seas at 5 meters.
      The ship has been pitching quite a lot, but is riding well. This
    short video courtesy of Jeff, NM1Y, best tells the story of our day,

      We had to QRT our maritime mobile operation and secure the radios,
    because of the ship?s rolling. We did not want to risk damage to the
    radios.
      We have yet to ascertain the status of our ship-mounted antennas
    for possible damage. The Hustler vertical is mounted on the bow, and
    took many salt water baths yesterday (as you can see in Jeff?s video).
      Today's forecast looks a little better. We hope to be back at full
    speed, and have 3G9A/MM QRV again, after checking and repairing the

  * January 27th, 0530 UTC: Last night was a tough night for us. The
    full fury of the South Atlantic was unleashed upon us. Shifting
    winds and turbulent seas changed our ship?s motion from severe
    pitching to pitching and yawing to very marked rolls. That which
    was not secured is no longer where it was. Some of those who were
    up and about yesterday are down and out today. Personal items are
    scattered, and some small items are lost in the mix. Bathroom floors
    are wet from water splashing out of the toilet bowls.
      It was a tough night, but we knew this was likely when we signed
    on. We will persist and continue towards Bouvet.  -- Ralph, K0IR

  * January 28th, 1200 UTC: 54 degrees 30 minutes South; 14 degrees 54
    minutes West. The seas have calmed somewhat. The predominant motion
    of the ship remains a moderate roll. We have not restored our maritime
    mobile stations, due to difficulty in securing the equipment to prevent
    damage. There are occasional breaks in an overcast sky. Visibility is
    estimated at 15 to 20 miles. Our current forward speed is 8.8 knots;
    a compromise between creature comfort and structural stresses and
    getting to Bouvet.
      Attendance at breakfast this morning was sparse, with most team
    members preferring their bunks over caloric intake.
      N9TK, N4GRN, and K0IR continued working on flight sequencing last
    night, and should complete the process this evening. We have a lot
    of "stuff" to get ashore as fast as possible in the weather windows
    Mother Nature sees fit to give us.
      Our forecast is for moderate snow ahead, followed by clearing.
    Icebergs remain visible but have decreased in number.

4U13, ITALY. Ivo, 9A3A/5B4ADA, with other members of Amateur Radio Club
of United Nations Global Service Centre, 4U1GSC, will be active with the
special callsign, 4U13FEB, from Brindisi, Italy, between now and March
31st. Activity is to promote "United Nations World Radio Day" [February
13th]. "UN World Radio Day" is an observance day held annually on the 13th
in February. "UN World Radio Day" is about celebrating radio, why we love
it and why we need it today more than ever. A day to remember the unique
power of radio to touch lives and bring people together across every corner

5H, TANZANIA. Janusz, AK4JK (aka AK4JK, T6EU, ZS5ADU, SP7GWF), is in the
process of organizing his station and once he is finished, he will be
active as 5H0JK from Rungwa, Tanzania. The length of his stay is unknown
at this time. Activity will be on various HF bands, but he favors the
following CW frequencies: 7007, 14007 and 21007 kHz (usually 7 kHz from
the bands bottom edge). He states that he "might work SSB; who knows :)".

5P/OZ18, DENMARK (Special Event). The Experimental Danish Radio amateurs
association (EDR) will activate two special event stations, OZ18ICE and 
5P8ICE, between May 1-23rd. Activity is taking place because Denmark is
hosting the 2018 Ice Hockey World Championship in the cities of Herning
and Copenhagen. There will be 16 nations fighting for the medals. Look
for operations on all bands, including the WARC-bands, using CW, SSB,
RTTY and several Digital modes (FT and JT modes the callsign 5P8ICE will
be used). A special OZ18ICE award is available (see QRZ.com). QSL card
can be requested via Clublog's OQRS to be sent via the Bureau or direct.
All logs will be uploaded to LoTW and eQSL. Please send no QSL cards to
them via bureau.

7Q, MALAWI (Update). Members of the EIDX Group (who brought you 9N7EI
earlier this year) will be active as 7Q7EI from an ideal location on the
shores of Lake Malawi between March 24th and April 2nd. There will be a
team of 13 operators. Operators mentioned are Dave/EI9FBB (Team Leader),
Jeremy/EI5GM (Co-Leader), Declan/EI9HQ, Pat/EI9HX (Co-Leader), Enda/EI2II,
Thos/EI2JD, Alain/EI2KM (F8FUA), Jim/EI4HH, Dave/EI4BZ, Peter/EI4GZB,

C8, MOZAMBIQUE (Reminder/IOTA Op). Operators Johannes/PA5X (C93PA) and
Gerben/PG5M will be active as C8X and C81G, respectively, from Ibu Island,
Mozambique, between January 28th and February 4th. Ibu Island is in the
Cabo Delgado District IOTA group and counts for AF-061. Activity will be
on 80-10 meters, including 60 meters and using modes CW, SSB and FT8.
Equipment will be FT-5000 and Elecraft K3, Acom1010 and Expert 1.3K-FA,
5-band Hexbeam with pentaplexer, 40/60/80m verticals and 30m VDA. They
will upload logs several times a day (internet permitting) to ClubLog

D4, CAPE VERDE. Henning, OZ1BII, will once again be active as D44EE from
Praia Santa Maria - Santiago Island (AF-005) during the ARRL International
DX CW Contest (February 17-18th) as a Single-Op/All-Band/Low-Power entry.
Look for activity before and after the contest on 160-10 meters CW only
using a Elecraft K3 w/100 watts into a TA-33 (30/17/12m), 2 element 40m
beam and 110 ft Long Wire. He will be operating from Angelo's, D44BS/D4A

DXCC NEWS (ARRL Press Release [In case you missed it] -- ARLD004 Amendment
to ARRL DXCC Rules Will Expand DXCC List). The ARRL Board of Directors
approved a motion to amend the DXCC Rules when it met January 19-20th.
Section II, Subsection 1 of the DXCC Rules now will include a new Sub-
section (d): The entity has a separate IARU member society and is included
on the US State Department Independent States in the World 
             <https://www.state.gov/s/inr/rls/4250.htm)>.
  "The discussion during the Board meeting and the rule change did not
address any specific entity," ARRL Radiosport Manager Norm Fusaro, W3IZ,
said. "The amendment could allow some additions to the current DXCC List
of entities. It's a good thing not only for DXCC but for all active hams."
  In fact, the Republic of Kosovo (Z6) has been added to the DXCC List
of current entities, increasing the total number of current DXCC entities
to 340. The addition of Kosovo raises to 331 the required number of current
entities confirmed to qualify for DXCC Honor Roll; Top of Honor Roll is
340. DXCC award accounts are being tabulated to reflect the change.
  This change qualifies as an "event," effective on January 21, 2018,
at 0000 UTC. Nothing is retroactive.
  A new Logbook of The World (LoTW) TQSL configuration file (v.11.4)
will be released on January 23. TQSL will detect when this file has
been released and will install the update automatically. Radio Amateurs
outside of Kosovo should continue to upload their logs to LoTW in the
usual manner. LoTW users within Kosovo (either with a Z6 call sign or
reciprocal call sign Z6/home call sign) will use TQSL to request a new
call sign certificate for their call sign. The request will use Republic
of Kosovo as the DXCC entity, and the QSO Begin date will be January 21
or later. LoTW will reject call sign certificate requests for the Republic
of Kosovo with a QSO Begin date prior to January 21. Z6 users requesting
call sign certificates may e-mail a copy of their Amateur Radio license
to, <LoTW-Help at arrl.org> .
  Kosovo's IARU member society SHRAK <http://www.shrak.org/en/> and
its president Vjollca Caka, Z61VB, are hosting a 10th-anniversary
activation to celebrate Kosovo's independence in February, 2008.
  SHRAK Headquarters station Z60A now is active on several bands with
multiple guest operators. Club Log will be used for this activation,
while QSLs are via OH2BH.

FK, NEW CALEDONIA (IOTA Ops). Arnaud, JG1XMV, will once again be active
as FK/JG1XMV from a few different IOTAs in New Caledonia starting February
17th. Islands mentioned are Grand Terre Island (OC-032); Lifou Island,
Mare Island and possibly two other islands in the IOTA reference group
OC-033. Activity will be holiday style on 40/20/17/15 meters using SSB.
QSL via his home callsign, direct, LoTW or eQSL.

H40 & H44, TEMOTU PROVINCE AND SOLOMON ISLANDS. Chung-ki, VA7YM, plans to
be active from these two DXCC entities during late February and mid-March.
His tentative schedule is as follows:
 February 24th -- Arrival at Honiara on Guadalcanal Island (OC-047), Solomon
                  Islands, and operate as H44YM
 February 27th -- Move to Lata, Nendo Island (OC-100), Temotu Province
                  and operate as H40YM
 March 13-16th -- Return to Honiara on Guadalcanal Island (OC-047), Solomon
                  Islands, and operate as H44YM until late March 16th
 March 17th    -- Depart from Honiara, Solomon Islands

  All the flights have been booked already. Activity will probably be like
his previous operations, on 80-6 meters using SSB, RTTY, PSK31 and JT65.

XX9B MACAO DXPEDITION (Update). The special callsign XX9B was granted by
the CTT (Post Office and Communications Agency from Macao). First oper-
ations are expected to start from the night of March 9th through March
17th. Upon requests, they are enhancing their antenna system for the
lower bands, especially 80 and 160m. Luciano, PY5KD, has been added to
the team. Current operators now are Bom/XX9LT, Leo/PP1CZ, Junior/PR7AB,
Claudio/PY2MC, Alex/PY2SEX, Alex/PY2WAS, Miguel/PY3MM, Fernando/PY4BZ,
Herminio/PY5HSD, Luciano/PY5KD, Beto/PY6RT and Jim/PY7XC. For more details

Z6, KOSOVO. DXCC newest entity is very active on the bands to celebrate
its entry on the DXCC list and celebrating Kosovo?s 10th anniversary of
independence (February, 2008). An international team has been invited to
Kosovo, and is now active as Z60A. The team consists of DL3DXX, OH0XX,
OH1MA, OH2BH, OH3JR, OZ1IKY, S50A and S51F, along with locals Z61DX,
Z61FF, Z61VB, Z62FB and Z63DBB. Additional locals are behind this activity
as well, and a new 2nd week team will be announced soon. Jim, K9JF, ARRL
Hon. Vice-President and Hans, PB2T, IARU R1 secretary will add to the
party. The ARRL Rocky Mountain Division director, Dwayne Allen, WY7FD,
has informed the team that the LoTW and the other ARRL structures are
being put into place to receive this new DXCC country contacts. Already,
"Republic of Kosovo" is listed in the DXCC Challenge pages. ClubLog will
be used for this activation, while QSLs will go via OH2BH.

ZC4, UK SOV. BASE AREAS ON CYPRUS (Update). Operators Stavros/5B4AFM,
Bob/5B4AGN, Andy/G3AB, Mike/G3WPH, Don/G3XTT and Neil/G6MC will be active
as ZC4A from the UK Sovereign Base Areas on Cyprus between January 25-31st.
They plan to have 3 high power stations on the air on all HF bands, 160-10
meters, including 60 meters, with a focus on CW, but with some SSB and
the Digital modes. Activity will include the CQ 160m CW Contest (January
26-28th). Daily log uploads to LoTW and ClubLog are planned with QSL
cards available via M0URX's OQRS only.

ZF, CAYMAN ISLANDS. Operators Dan/N6MJ, John/K6AM and Tim/N6WIN will be
active as ZF1A on Grand Cayman Islands (NA-016) during the ARRL Inter-
national DX CW Contest (February 17-18th) as a Multi-Single entry. Look
for activity outside of the contest on 160-10 meters including 30/17/12
meters. QSL via K6AM, direct, by the Bureau or LoTW.
