We're one step closer to being back on the air. As some may know, Dmitri Zhikharev, RA9USU, along with Adrian, Ciuperca, KO8SCA, have been working with me behind the scenes to get the station operational again. Through the generous donations of Dima and his associates (notably Ed Kritsky, NT2X), we were able to get a rack mounted K3, Acom 2000 linear amplifier, and associated network- enabled control hardware. We were also granted another K3 to act as a remote head from Tony, N2UN/SK, via his widow, and delivered to us by Andrew Bodony, K2LE. Finally, Adrian has been doing a lot of behind-the- scenes networking and legwork with his counterparts to help get things done from within the United Nations. Yesterday represents an additional milestone for the club as Adrian (who did most of the work) and I, finally erected a brand new SteppIR BigIR vertical antenna on the Secretariat's roof. All that remains is to connect and lay the ground radials, fine-tune the rack mounted devices, and setup and configure the remote K3. Once done and after almost a decade off-air, we can finally call CQ 20 de 4U1UN..... 73! OJ0, MARKET REEF (Press Release). Wayne, N7NG, sent out the following on August 16th [edited]: OJ0C ? YOUTH ON THE AIR WITH INTERNATIONAL TEAM -- August 18-25th -- LOCATION 60.18.06N & 19.07.89E -- The Market Reef light- house is located low-to-the-sea, where waves are often rolling over the entire DXCC entity. With no jetty, landing can be hazardous, with small zodiacs often being pushed hard by the sea. Life at the lighthouse is plain and simple, with all participants sharing the daily duties. The first week in July was an outstanding success, while the youth were managing the remote Market outpost. With lots of experience with life at sea, they also made 4634 QSOs with 89 countries and definitely came home with another rich experience under their belt. Now the second group of Pieter/ON3DI, Florian/OE3FTA, Ilie/YO3IMD and Elias/OH2EP will try their landing on the early morning of Saturday, August 18th. The weather is expected to be a challenge again, with a weather window from 9AM to 12 noon. The wind is expected to be up to 9m/s, which is very near the limit of 10m/s. All this requires a zodiac landing at its best. You can follow the WX at following link: https://www.foreca.com/Finland/Hammarland?lang=en https://www.qrz.com/db/OJ0AM/ The Finnish Lighthouse Society (FLS) and Amateur Radio League of Finland (SRAL) in conjunction with OH-DX-Foundation (OHDXF) and the DX University (DXU) are organizing the ? INTERNATIONAL YOUTH AT SEA (IYAS) ? cultural exchange-based radio activity. The event is supported by the organizers as well as the YASME Foundation Inc. https://sral.info/2018/06/19/market-calling/ These young operators will be participating in daily hands-on workshops of safety and survival at sea at the remote lighthouse. In addition, they will become familiar with how to operate the radio efficiently. Their first welcome workshop will be in Aland Islands (OH0) by Martti/OH2BH, Henri/OH3JR, Keijo/OH2BOZ and Pasi/OH3WS prior their departure. For the youngsters it was the very first of this kind thus sharing the game plan was important. The DX University had provided them a detailed road map to success. VP6D has reached another significant milestone. After a short delay the VP6D equipment is on its way to Braveheart in New Zealand. The shipment was consolidated on to 5 pallets, with a total weight of 1,615 kg (3,553 pounds) and released to Cathay Pacific Cargo airlines by our customs broker in Hayward, California. The shipment was trucked to San Francisco International Airport for delivery to Cathay Pacific?s cargo hub in Hong Kong. From there it goes to Auckland, New Zealand where it will clear Customs and Bio-security, then taken to our customs broker in Tauranga, New Zealand for delivery to Braveheart. We built in plenty of buffer to meet the contracted date to load Braveheart and manage any unexpected delays. It?s been a busy several weeks to get all the equipment consolidated, integrated, tested and packed for shipment. The short delay allowed us to add a few late arriving items: SPE high power amplifiers, a spare set of band pass filters and a drone, we think you will agree the delay was justified. At Braveheart?s warehouse the pallets will be unwrapped and inventoried. The shipping cases will not be opened unless visibly damaged. The next major milestone will be in October when team members begin their journey to meet the Braveheart at Mangareva, French Polynesia. It's been a long 16 months of detailed planning and coordination - the target is now in sight. In case you missed the latest Clublog update, VP6/D is shown as #19 Most Wanted. With donations at 78% of target we?re looking forward to additional DXers joining the project?s donor list on VP6D.com 73, Team Ducie 2018 Website: vp6d.com, Twitter and Facebook Please direct questions to: info at vp6d.com W9DXCC NEWS (Less than a month away!/Press Release, dated August 12th).
