The following was posted on on August 29th: An update by CE5WQO -- After my experience in CE0Z Juan Fernandez Isl 2014 as CE0Z/CE5WQO I decided to make all efforts to put another Chilean most wanted ON AIR, so San F?lix Isl is on my mind. A few months ago I announced information of my next activity to CE0X San F?lix Isl. The original idea was a small team of three operators, but after receive many e-mails from different stations around the world proposing the idea of forming a large Team, I have been in contact with some US stations to make this possible. After hard work in The Chilean Ministry of Telecommunication and The Navy, authorizations and permissions are granted ? for now just need to take care of the logistical details to put this entity on air. Then came a team of world-renowned operators, with whom I worked with. Today, the relations with the team are broken, for a lack of trust, and the lack of support in logistics since most of the work I?ve done myself, and is easy to receive news at the other side of the desk, while one who makes efforts and spends money for this project it is one, guess who... I decided to announce that the team will be only for three operators: Dima/RA9USU on CW, other operator for Digital/CW, and me on SSB. We will cover from 160 ? 6 meters in SSB CW RTTY. I need to confirm that this entity will be on air in 2017, with or without a large team, and the exact date is still not defined. My efforts will be for the chance that I have to put this entity on air, to bring a new entity to many Hams in the world, 14 years have passed since the last dxpedition, and will pass another 14 years, because this opportunity must not be wasted, it is very difficult to get these permits especially for foreigners. The second press release will include information with more details. Thanks to all the friends that has send support and friendship to make this project happen..... Felipe Guti?rrez CE5WQO CY9C ST. The following was sent out on August 29th: The Perseverance DX Group (PDXG) and the United Radio QSL Management Bureau , owned and operated by Tim Beaumont, M0URX, have entered into an exclusive relationship for United Radio and its partner M0OXO Online QSL Request Service operated by Charles Wilmott, M0OXO, to use PDXG?s QSL Management System. Current, future and legacy callsigns supported by these firms are included in the agreement. Initially intended for our own use we decided to make the application available to the DX community supported by the United Radio / M0OXO services. This fully integrated cloud based application allows authorized users around the world access to a host of QSL management functions. By dramatically simplifying and automating the process a QSL manager?s work- load and time commitment are significantly reduced. To DXers the application presents the familiar functions of Log Search and OQRS. Busted Call and Not in Log inquires are handled by an integrated (form) process that greatly reduces the need for e-mails. The application integrates PayPal donor information with logged QSOs to recognize those who supported the DX-pedition for expedited confirmation handling. Address and QSL card label management functions are seamlessly integrated for ease of use. Under development for 2 years, the application was introduced during the TX3X Chesterfield Islands DX-pedition. Many enhancements were added since TX3X. To date, Tim has loaded the logs for 140 DX stations, over 2 million QSOs, Charles will soon begin uploading 150 logs. User feedback has been very positive. Questions may be directed to Pista/HA5AO or Gene/K5GS at their QRZ.com address. PJ2, CURACAO. Max, IZ2ZTQ, is now active as PJ2/IZ2ZTQ from Curacao (SA-099) until September 6th. Activity has been on 40/20 meters most evenings using the Digital modes (PSK31/RTTY) and if no noise, some SSB. He informs OPDX that he operates from his boat and states, "so I don't have so much power." He also adds, "I will leave the island by plane and I will be back at the end of October when I will have more time to work on the radio. Next country that I will visit will be Colombia and Panama with the amazing San Blas archipelago." QSL via IZ2LSP or eQSL. PROPAGATION FORECAST/REPORT (September 5-11th)....... It was rebuilt numerous times and reached its current form in the 15th century during the war fought between San Marino and the House of Malatesta. Cesta ? Second Tower T71B -- The Cesta is located on the highest of Monte Titano's summits. A museum to honor Saint Marinus, created in 1956, is located in this tower and showcases over 1,550 weapons dating from the Medieval Era to the modern day. It was constructed in the 13th century on the remains of an older Roman fort. Montale ? Third Tower T71C -- The Montale is located on the smallest of Monte Titano's summits. Unlike the other towers, this one is not open to the public. It was constructed in the 14th century. It is thought to have been constructed to give protection against the increasing power of the Malatesta family in that region. It was also used as a prison, and accordingly, the only entrance to the tower is a door about seven metres from ground level, which was common for prison architecture of the time. Tom, KC0W, and his all-CW "Cows Over the World" DXpeditions have come to a halt at the moment. He reports on QRZ.com, September 10th: "My proposed 'Top 25 Most Wanted' DX- pedition is not going to happen. Sorry for getting anyone's hopes up. Never trust anyone who claims to be 'military' and who also claims to have the authority to allow people to visit KHx land. I was hoodwinked by the promise of tinsel & shiny lights by a purveyor of lies & mis- truths...........It's now time to crawl under a rock here in Fiji until I start the T30COW DXpedition. I have been issued 3D2KOW for a 2017 Fiji DXpedition. Nothing new to report regarding permission to visit Tokelau for the ZK3COW DXpedition. If anyone is interested in DXing from Tokelau submit all of your paperwork for visitation approval 10+ months in advance due to new tourist regulations on ZK3 land." Research station to close in 2017!). ABC.net reports [edited], "Australia's Antarctic Division (AAD) has confirmed the permanent research station on Macquarie Island will close at the end of March 2017. The division has operated a year-round research station on the sub-Antarctic island since 1948. AAD Director Nick Gales said the organization would instead use a network of six field huts to continue conducting 'high-priority research' over the summer. He said a recent engineering review showed a very large investment was needed to upgrade the aging infrastructure to manage increased risks to occupational health and safety, environmental contamination and site exposure to ocean inundation." Logs will be posted to LoTW after the DXpedition as soon as they have been checked and busted QSOs corrected. Paul, ZL4TT, informed OPDX the following: "Just a reminder that VK9NZ Norfolk Island will be on air late Sunday 25th September. Everything has gone to plan and we are looking forward to the pile-ups, especially from EU, SAM and AF. We will make a late entry in the CQWW RTTY leg. We will have the low band antenna up in the first few days using an 18m Spiderbeam pole with a topload wire for topband. Look for us on 160m and 80m around sunset and sunrise Norfolk Island time (i.e. 0640 and 1845z), and from East Coast North America sunrise around 1000z onwards. See you in the pile ups!" or more details and updates, see: https://vk9nz.wordpress.com VP2, ANGUILLA. Operators Manfred/DK1BT, Wolf/DL4WK, Sigi/DL7DF, Juergen/ DL7UFN and Frank/DL7UFR will be active from Anguilla between October 25th and November 7th. A VP2E callsigns has been applied for. Bernd, DF3CB, is their pilot station. QSL via DL7DF, direct or by the DARC Bureau. An OQRS will be available on the following Web page. They will upload the full logs of the DXpedition to LoTW within 6 months after the DXpedition. For more details and updates, see: http://www.dl7df.com/vp2e VP8STI AND VP8SGI VIDEOS. Two videos/slide-shows on the VP8STI (S. Sand- wich Islands) and VP8SGI (S. Georgia Islands) DXpeditions are now avail- able online at YouTube.com: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQKHnxL5Fnk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8Iyqr5CHw4 Each video by David, K3LP, are about 33-38 minutes. VQ9, CHAGOS ISLANDS. Jim, ND9M, is once again active from Diego Garcia Island (AF-006), but signing as VQ96JC on Saturday on 17 meters CW. Jim informs OPDX, "I'll be here for another month before returning to the U.S., and only a couple times each week. But I always look for NA stations; the Left Coast often comes through here with good sigs most reliably on 17m." Jim, who has been going to VQ9 since 1998, lives/works on a U.S. merchant marine ship, states "there is no permanent station on the island; the ham club has been gone for years," and "the physical commute between my ship and my operating location takes about 90 minutes overall. Set up and breakdown each time is another 30 minutes. Band changes require me to lower the antenna and add or remove segments to/from the antenna so there's more time. So each and every time I operate, I've got a 6-hour overall window and 2 hours are eaten up without even being on the air." Jim's entire station is in a backpack and green environment shopping bags. He sets up in front of a recreational park where there's A/C power and trees. The station that he carries includes a Yaesu FT-857D, external power supply, separate tuner, 75-feet of coax, a 15-40m dipole, support line, and tools; everything comes to about 25 pounds. Since this is a military base, Jim can't leave his antenna up at all times, so he has to put up the antenna every time he operates and then take it back down when he is done for the evening. He uses 100-pound fishing line for support legs, but that stuff is very attractive to the locals who often take it, and he finds that he has to put up new line fairly regularly; it's a bit of a pain to throw line up into the jungle trees and then find it again just to tie it off and make it accessible for a couple hours. Jim's preferred operating mode is CW, although he does try to get on SSB occasionally and even the Digital modes (PSK31, PSK63, and RTTY) if time allows. The "6" in his callsign VQ96JC represents the year in 2016. Jim has been doing this since 2007 (e.i. VQ97JC, VQ98JC, VQ99JC...). He also operated as VQ975FOC in 2013 as part of the FOC's 75th anniversary celebration. QSL info is posted on QRZ.com. WP3, PUERTO RICO. Members of the "COMBETE CONTEST GROUP" will be active as WP3E during CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 29-30th) as a Multi-Multi entry. YX0V AVES ISLAND (Update). Pilot Station Steve, W4DTA, announced this past week that the YX0V DXpedition to Aves Island has not been cancelled, but put on hold by the Venezuelan Navy. They are expected to meet with the Navy personnel in charge of the logistics of the transportation to the island by the middle of next week at the latest, and they hope to have a clear schedule for departure.
