[DX] Who Was It?

At about 1740 Z today (Dec. 3) I worked a station who was, at first, signing 
5X5X, or that's what it sounded like. He gave a callsign for Germany as QSL 
information, but a static crash blotted some of it. As I was logging the 
contact (yes, I still use a paper log book), it seemed to me he began using 
either Z5X or Z9X. I checked the DX Clusters, but what I found there were 
several spots of ZL8X. But I had my beam on Africa.

I wonder if anyone else might have worked this station and could share 
pertinent information with me...or if anyone knows just who the station was. 
I'd be really grateful for the help.
