Hi Michael,

I had to laugh on your comment about moving to the west coast., since we are always commenting about moving to the east coast when you guys have the DX on your side. ;-)

Hang in there, you will get them soon.

Maybe I'm the last one of the stragglers. but I'm either gonna have to get
an antenna up for 160m real quick - or I'm missing my chance to work 'em.

I'm even willing to wake up in the middle of the night (East Coast) and get
on 80m - where I've got a reasonable chance of working 'em. But by the time
the team gets on 80m, it's (a) sunrise on the East Coast and (b) time for me
to leave for work. Nonetheless, I try to work 'em from the mobile.

Maybe I'll move to the West Coast.

Hi Mike --

I got up three times at 0400 EST, and thankfully worked them on 80 CW at
0430 EST the third time. Nasty JA RF wall to be sure. The 3-500Z's were
earning their keep that time. My antenna is an HF2V with 32 radials.

I wish they'd do NA, EU, and JA segments; that might help.

I was able to email them, and get responses, when they were on Mellish Reef
a few months ago, so if you have any suggestions for them you might try
email ( I was one of the "lucky" ones that lost my Mellish Reef QSO when
they dropped their laptop in the water..... oh well.....).

Getting up at 4 AM isn't a problem for me; it's staying awake at work at 4
PM that's, shall we say, challenging!!

I've got a lot of respect for 2 guys on an island in the South Pacific.
That said, it's tough because:

. It's only 2 guys and they've gotta sleep sometime

. Given they're on the other side of the planet, they're awake when
we're sleeping, or.

. We're awake when they're sleeping.

. It looks like they have the ability to operate on one band at a
time. So the entire pileup is all at the same place (complete with LIDS and
an Italian station calling CQ).

. When they are on, they've concentrated on 160 and 80. given the
grey-line. that's again, while we're sleeping.

. Sometimes they're on 30m. which is great. levels the playing field
a bit. but I'm suspicious when I hear folks tuning on 30m. what are they
tuning?

But it's a tough one here on the East Coast.

As I'm told - "if you live long enough, you'll work 'em all".
