expects to leave Diego Garcia on December 5th for a four month holiday
with his XYL in Florida. However, Jim expects to return to VQ9-land in
April 2007 for another four-month tour. Jim provides the following to
OPDX about his QSLing and his operation for VQ9-land: "All direct mail
QSLs received at my Florida QTH as of November 10th have been answered.
My XYL is holding the mail received after that date, and those requests
will be answered after I get home. Bureau cards received as of November
10th have also been processed and will be mailed to the Outgoing Bureau
prior to leaving the island. (All QSL requests go via the home callsign,
ND9M.) Ops need to remember that IRCs referred to as 'Beijing Model 1'
will expire at the end of December 2006. QSL requests containing those
IRCs that are received too late will be answered by the bureau. (The new
design is easily identified by the shiny hologram label on the front and
is valid through 2009.) I've been active from VQ9 for eight months out of
the past year, and so far logged 26,000 QSOs. CW accounts for 85%, with
SSB at 13%, and 2% were using digital modes. About 40% have been on 20m,
20% were on 15m, and another 20% were split between 30 & 40m. Considering
what propagation conditions have been like, I'm quite pleased with the
results...... 73, Jim, VQ9JC / ND9M / KG4JC"
