* PLEASE NOTE: The report "could" contain "Pirate/SLIM" operations. As
always, you never know - "Work First Worry Later" (WFWL).
4U1UN WRAP-UP. Bernie McClenny, W3UR, editor of "The Daily DX", reports
that last week's 10 hour operation made 1062 QSOs. Operators were only
able to use one station at a time due to inter-station interference.
He stated that their operation was from about 1430Z on Friday, January
30th until about 0200Z on Saturday, January 31st. Any QSOs after 0200Z
on Saturday was that of a pirate! Operators were Bernie/W3UR, his daughter
Christa/KB3JIU and Steve/KU9C. QSL via address on QRZ.com.
5Z, KENYA. Sigi, DL7DF, will be here on holiday with his XYL between
February 16th and March 1st. He will be active during his free time
as 5Z4HW on all bands (no 160/30/6m ) on SSB, CW, RTTY, PSK31 and SSTV.
He will only use a 100w into a GP and wire antennas. QSL via his home
callsign DL7DF.
6T1, SUDAN (Attention Prefix Hunter!). OPDX was informed that a new
interesting prefix from the Sudan will be activated soon only during a
contest. The operator is Namer, ST2NH, and his new contest callsign is
6T1T. QSL via EA7FTR: Francisco Lianez Suero, Asturias 23, 21110 Aljaraque,
HUELVA, SPAIN.
8P, BARBADOS. Look for Peter, W0SA, to be here for a month, February 11th
to March 11th. His callsign will be 8P9NX. Peter told OPDX that he would
be active on 80-10 meters including the three WARC bands, mostly on CW
but some RTTY as well. QSL all contacts DIRECT + SASE to his QRZ.com
address.
A6, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES (Topband!). It was reported on the Topband Mail
Reflector that Ghis, ON5NT, will be here for a two month work assignment
starting in Dubai on February 9th. He will be staying 50km from A61AJ.
Also, Robert, S53R, is expected to be with him part of the time. Ghis
said he will try to activate A61AJ on the lowbands when work permits.
Apparently he has to work weekends - which makes sunrise openings difficult
for him. Additionally, Dave Rosen, K2GM, is also going back to Dubai about
February 15th and will try some more 160m work permitting.
ANTARCTIC ACTIVITY WEEK. Gianni, I1HYW, announced this past week that
several special Italian callsigns have already been issued for the
Antarctic Activity Week which will be held from February 22-28th. The
callsigns issued so far are: TM0ANT by F5NOD, IR1ANT by I1HYW, II6ANT
by I6DHY, IR6ANT by I6YOT, II7ANT by IZ7AUH, IR8ANT by I8ACB and IR0ANT
by IZ0EGC. Gianni also states that as soon as other callsigns are received
from the Ministry of Communication, he will up date the list. They have
arranged to use a unique QSL card (printed by IT9EJW) and a QSL Manager
in Germany (Manfred, DE0MST) during this event. Manfred will do the Bureau
service for all the callsigns used during the Antarctic Activity Week.
Readers may have noticed that the Italian stations in Antarctica are
already using a special prefix callsign, IR0PS. This station will join
the activity only for few days starting February 24th. The actual crew
has to leave the Base, but they have promised to try to be active from
the Ship, as /MM.
AY1, SOUTH ORKNEY ISLANDS. Henry, LU4DXU, has arrived on Laurie Island
(South Orkneys) and has started to operate as AY1ZA. He has been very
active on 20 meters SSB. Henry has also been active on 80/40/15/10 meters
usually operating split and by the numbers. It was reported earlier by
Dominik, DL5EBE, that Henry's radio is/was interfering with the commercial
HF radio of the base. When both radios are operating, Henry has to reduce
his output to 10-15 watts. The use of the linear amplifier is only possible
when the commercial radio on Orcadas Base is not operating. However, his
digital equipment works fine on AMTOR, RTTY + PSK31. Unfortunately, the
conditions are very poor at the moment.
CENTRAL AMERICAN OPERATIONS. Heikki "Henry", OH3JF, is going to be active
from Guatemala as TG7/OH3JF from February 18-29th. He will then move to
Honduras and operate as HR5/OH3JF during the period of March 2-10th. As
usual, he is traveling with good antennas for the low bands and 800
watts power. The main focus of the operation will be from 160-30 meters,
but also other bands will be activated. QSL this operation via OH3OJ. The
primary (suggested) frequencies are:
CW - 1827, 3507, 7007, 10103/10108, 14007, 18077, 21007, 24897, 28007
SSB - 1840, 3789, 7045, 14195, 18145, 21295, 24945 and 28495 kHz
CN, MOROCCO. Jim, W7EJ, will be here starting February 24th until about
the end of March. During this time, he plans to be active in three contests
as CN2R. Look for him during the CQ 160-Meter SSb Contest (February 28-29th)
as a Single-Op entry. Then in March, look for Jim in the ARRL DX Phone
Contest (March 6-7th) and the CQ WPX SSB Contest (March 27-28th) as a
Single-Op/All Band/High Power entry in both contests. QSL all three
contests via W7EJ.

TOP 5 QSL MANAGER NOMINATION FOR 2003. John, K1XN, from "The GoList"
announced that the nomination for TOP 5 QSL MANAGERS of 2003 closed on
February 1st, and here is the list of all the managers nominated as
TOP 5 managers. He states, "The response has been great this year and
the nominations show why you just can not place a single one on a black
list. QSL Managers provide the DX community a very valuable service and
our experiences with these managers will be 'good and bad' but most of
the time it is not the fault of the manager personally. The nomination
list proves that other variables enter into the good/bad equation.
Here is the complete list (98) in alphabetical order. The TOP 5 of the
Top 5 list will be announced later (next week). Thanks to all of you
that participated in this activity and look forward to your help with
this survey next year (2004)."
