On December 11 (24) the 100th anniversary of the legendary polar radio
operator, the Hero of the Soviet Union, Ernest Teodorovich Krenkel (RAEM)
will be celebrated. During many years he was a member of the editorial board
of the journal "Radio", the first president of Radio Sport Federation of the
USSR. In memory of Ernest Teodorovich the editorial staff of the journal
"Radio" and the Union of Radioamateurs of Russia with the participation of
the
Club of polar radio operators "ARKTICA"

from 2100Z on December 18 up to 2100Z on December 21

are holding activity days.

During these days the memorial radio station RAEM and several memorial radio
stations
will be on the air:

R1AEM - QTH Murmansk R6AEM - QTH Krasnodar
R3AEM - QTH Kolomna, nr Moscow R9AEM - QTH Vorkuta
R4AEM - QTH Votkinsk, nr Izhevsk R0AEM - QTH Norilsk

The award "Ernest Krenkel - RAEM" will be issued for the contacts
established during this period. In order to receive it the competitors from
Europe and Asia have to establish radio connections with 100 Russian
radioamateurs stations. Any BANDS and MODES could be used.
>From this number of contacts one should be established with the memorial
station RAEM, one - with any memorial station with the R#AEM, and
one - with any club member of polar radio operators "Arctica".
On the air "Arctica" club members will transmit the combination AC
when working CW, and "The Arctic Club" - when working SSB.
For competitors from other continents it is enough to establish 10 contacts
with Russian stations, from which one should be with any memorial station
(RAEM or R#AEM). It is possible to see the list of "The Arctic" club members
on the site of the club with the following address:

Among the club members there are also citizens of other countries - the
connections with them will also be taken into consideration when issuing the
award. The order of receiving the award and payment for having it mailed
will be announced in the nearest future.

The award will be issued by the Union of Radioamateurs of Russia.

The stations that will establish the biggest amount of QSO with the memorial
stations and with "The Arctic" club members during these days (2100Z
December 18 - 2100Z December 21, 2003) will receive the original QSL cards
of RAEM (donated by his son T.Krenkel) with the facsimile of E.T.Krenkel's
signature.
The repeated QSO will be counted on different BANDS and MODES.
Besides that the repeated contacts established with the same stations within
of the "MEMORY LIVES FOR EVER" CONTEST (0500Z - 0900Z December 20, 2003)
will also be counted.
The radio stations who will show the best results (the first ten places)
in SO and MO groups will receive original QSL, and also those who will
take the first places on the territories of the world

The competition reports and the activity days should be directed to the
editorial office of the journal "Radio".
