Charles,
Last time I looked, the South Sandwich/South Georgia DXpedition was to be
funded entirely by the 12 team members and a grant from the NCDXF. They
did not ask for money from the DX world.
As far as their operating philosophy, yes it did set me back on my heels at
first.
I am a little pistol, using an IC-706 to an 80 mtr full wave loop and a 40'
base
loaded vertical. Then I remembered I easily worked the Falklands and South
Shetland Islands on many bands. Shucks, even Chuck Brady on Bouvet
wasn't all that hard.
I really wished they had had pilot stations...when they kept showing up on
30 mtrs in the middle of that interference (was that some sort of OTH
radar?).
However, it was 30 mtrs that I worked them.
Now the article is out in the DX Magazine. Come to find out that they had
a mountain blocking the East Coast of the US.
One general question for the reflector, Why use Thule Island in the S.
Sandwich
group? There are several islands there. Is it the best one?
Charles, I suggest that you may wish to keep your opinions to yourself.
DXing
is suppose to be fun. If it isn't fun for you, you may wish to take up some
other aspect of the hobby.
Sincerely,
Mark W4GP
