Hello John,
I think the apparent so-called advantage to the 'last-two' scheme is
that there is much less chance for duplication amongst calling stations
if the ID with the last two only. After all there is much duplication
amongst prefixes as one can imagine since they are limited to what
letters can be used based on ITU designations. So if you are a KC7LDW
(for example) and use your complete call within a pileup where there
could well be another 100 KC7's also calling...it might behoove you to
drop the shared-prefix and go with just DW - or - LDW. That is my
response..however it is - not - my own DX practice.
I never use the last two to call with. I almost always call DX
using....
"alpha-bravo-number-seven-sierra-lima in Arizona"
I outline this strategy and other DX tips on the DX Page of my site.
Many times the DX replies only saying "the station in Arizona go ahead'
obviously the complete word Arizona sticks out in the pileup and odds
are extremely great that no one else is also transmitting the word
"Arizona" Also I purposely use the two words "number seven" instead of
just saying " seven" since it lengthens my transmitting time and
increases the odds of being heard by the DX. It has really paid off
for me....
DXCC=305 worked - all SSB - all on dipoles - some QRO ! (oh yeah!)
