3B8, RODRIGUES ISLAND. Robert, 3B8FR, was heard this past weekend on
18140 kHz around 1245z. He was also heard this past week on 21285 kHz
around 11315z. QSL via the address on qrz.com.
3DA0, SWAZILAND. Frosty, K5LBU, will once again operate from here between
July 11-18th as 3DA0CF. Andre, ZS6WPX, will be his host and take him to
the station which should have a 3 element tribander plus dipoles for the
low bands. They hope to put up something for 6 meters during this time.
Frosty plans on bringing a RigBlaster to try some PSK (if he can learn how
it works), otherwise it will be all SSB. He also plans to be in the IARU
Contest. Frosty states he will arrive in ZS-land on the July 5th and leave
for Houston, Texas, on August 4th. He teachs school, so he has to be back
by August 9th. QSL via K5LBU direct or bureau. SASE or SAE and USD or IRC.
3X, GUINEA. Baldur/DJ6SI and Tom/DL1QW are active from Conakry as 3XA8DX
until about June 24th. Expect CW activity from Baldur and SSB/RTTY activity
from Tom on 160-6 meters. QSL via home callsigns.
6th ANNUAL WORLDWIDE MUSEUM SHIPS WEEKEND is being sponsored by the "USS
Salem Radio Club" during July 20-21st, 2002. It begins at 0000z and runs
for a full 48 hour period. They are expecting participation by more than
70 Museum Ships from throughout the World. Each participating ship will
issue their own QSL cards. A certificate will be available from the "USS
Salem Radio Club" for working 10 or more ships during the weekend event. The
certificate is available by sending a 9 X 12 SASE along with log information
of ships worked to KC1XI: George Clisham, 126 Billings Rd, North Quincy,
MA 02171 ( [email protected] ). Suggested operating frequencies are:
SSB - 3860, 7260, 14260, 18160, 21360, 24960, 28360 and 50160

BY, CHINA. Jean Michel, F6AJA, informs OPDX that he will be in Nanjing
from June 26th through July 1st. His licence is valid up to May 2004, and
he is expected to sign homecall/clubcall. Jean states he will probably
be F6AJA/BY4RSA or /BY4WNG from the University. He would like to say
thanks to Michael, BD5RV, for his help.
D2, ANGOLA. Joan, D2U, was heard this past week on 40 meters CW and this
past weekend on 30 meters. Watch 7010 kHz around 2130z and 10120 kHz
after 0045z. QSL via CT1BFL. Also, D2EB, was heard on 15 meters CW/SSB
this past week. Check around 21215 and 21017 kHz (plus/minus a few) after
1100z and again after 1830z.
ET, ETHIOPIA. Operator Aleksej, RX3DD, was heard active as ET3AA on 15
meters this past week and weekend. Activity was on 21210 or 21297 kHz
between 1300 and 1600z. QSL via Box 60258, Addis-Ababa.
FP, ST. PIERRE AND MIQUELON. Paul/K9OT and Peg/KB9LIE will operate from
Miquelon (NA-032), August 11-19th, as FP/K9OT and FP/KB9LIE. Operations
will be on 80-6 meters CW and SSB only; 160 will be attempted. This is a
low-key vacation trip with 100 watts to wire and vertical antennas. Rigs
will be a Ten-Tec Jupiter, Yaesu FT-900 CAT, and Alinco DX-70TH. Special
emphasis will be on 30, 17, and 12 meters. They will enter in the North
American QSO Party SSB Contest, and they will use the Green River Valley
ARS club callsign FP/K9WM. QSL via their homecall, except FP/K9WM QSLs
go to NN9K.
FR/T, TROMELIN ISLAND. Jacques, FR5ZU, continues to be active from here.
His activity during the past week has been mainly on 15 meters (21225-2130
kHz) SSB, but some RTTY operations on 20 meters. Look for him between
1330-1400z, 1730-1900z and after 0330z. There have been a few SSB QSNs
reported on 20 and 10 meter. QSL via JA8FCG.
IOTA NEWS................
EU-023. Dieter, DL9GDB, will be active as 9H3UT from Comino Island
until June 22nd. Activity will be mainly CW. QSL to his home
callsign.
EU-045. Operators from the A.R.I. di Latina, Frascati, Lecce ("Salento
DX Team") will be active from Zannon Island (Pontine - I.I.A.
LT012), June 20-24th, using the special callsign IB0A. QSL
Manager is IZ0BTV (the bureau or direct).
EU-045. Antonello, IK2DUW, will be active from Ventotene and Santo
Stefano Islands between June 19-29th. Look for activity to be
on 6 meter and SSB/CW/RTTY. His callsign will be IB0/IK2DUW.
QSL via IK2DUW: Antonello Passarella, Via M. Gioia, 6,
20051 Limbiate (MI), Italy.
EU-064. Pierre, F5AAR, will be active from Yeu Island from June
17-20th. Activity will be on all HF bands.
EU-146. Gregg, VE3ZZ, is now living in The Netherlands and is licensed
as PA9ZZ. He was active briefly as PA9ZZ/P from Schouwen-
Duiveland Island on June 2nd and will be active again from
the island during the IOTA contest July 27-28th. This will
be SSB only. QSLs to Gregg A. Calkin, Bontiuslaan 1A,
NL-2242 PW Wassenaar, The Netherlands, or via the PA or VE
Bureaus.
NA-112. Steve, AK0M, plans to be active from the North Carolina State
West Group (USI NC-011S), on Ocean Isle Beach, grid square FM03
and possibly FM13 and FM14 from June 23-28th. Activity will
primarily be on 20-10 meters and 6 meters, with possibly some
30m and 40m activity depending on conditions. Operation will be
sporadic, as this is a family vacation trip. Preferred mode is
CW, but some SSB is likely and possibly also PSK31. Frequencies
will be on or near the standard IOTA frequencies. QSL via home
callsign.
SA-006. The Association of Radioamateurs of Venezuela and the Grupo
DX Caracas are organizing their annual IOTA DXpedition to
celebrate Venezuelan Navy Day 2002. YW1T will operate from
Toas Island, Zulia State Islands, on SSB and CW from 160-6
meters from July 23-28th. QSL direct and via the bureau to
W4SO, their mail drop. QSLs will be verified and mailed from
Venezuela. A commemorative plaque will be issued to the DX
station that works them on the most bands and modes.
KH6, HAWAII. Dean, KH6B, reports to look for the Hawaii QRP Club to be
active as KH6IN in the upcomming Field Day. They plan to use the K2 on
CW and TT Scout on SSB, both at 5W.
LIGHTHOUSE ACTIVITY AND NEWS........................
Look for Joe, KB2AVB (ARLHS member #629), to be acive from Tibbets Point
Lighthouse (USA 848), Cape Vincent, NY, June 21st, 22nd, and 23rd. This
operation will be mainly on SSB, but there may be some CW and PSK-31
activity. Activity will be on 80/40/20/10/2 meters. QSL via KB2AVB.
Members of the "United States Power Squadron" will cruise to the Cape
Lookout Lighthouse (reference number ARLHS-USA-126) to conduct a special
event amateur radio station in support of the National Safe Boating
Council's National Safe Boating Campaign. The station, N1C, will be on
June 27-30th and on the air from 1400-2200z (1000-1800 Eastern Daylight
time). Members of USPS will promote the message to "Boat Smart from the
Start - Wear your Life Jacket". They will be assisted by members of
District 27 and by the North Carolina squadrons that serve this area of
the East Coast. Amateur radio operators can contact the station, N1C,
on 7267, 14267, 21367 or 28367 kHz. A special certificate is available

Mike, GM4SUC, would like to remind everyone that the "International
Lighthouse/Lightship Weekend" has grown in popularity and participants.
It will be held from 0001z on Saturday, August 17th until 2359z on
Sunday, August 18th. Already over 100 entries in 27 countries have
been received by VK2CE at the offical web site for the event at:

OOOPPPS DEPARTMENT (Your editor needs more caffeine early Sunday mornings
while writing the OPDX!) Last week we had two typos. First, we would like
to apologize to Bill Moore, NC1L, DXCC Manager for printing his name as
Bob Moore. The second typo was under "IOTA NEWS....". IOTA listed as
AS-279 should have been AS-159.
OP0, BELGUIM (Special Prefix). A Belguim radio club station (ON6CK and
OT2R) will be using the special callsign OP0GS at various times to
commemorate the "Battle of the Golden Spurs" until the end of 2002.
On July 11th, a special activity day, OP0GS is planned to be active for
a 24 hour period on different bands and modes including RTTY and probably
PSK31 also. QSL as follows: OP0GS via ON5GK, ON6CK via ON4ADN and OT2R
via ON4ADN.
P5, NORTH KOREA. Ed, P5/4L4FN, is once again up and active. Activity during
last week seemed to be mainly RTTY operations (at 50 baud) on 15 meters.
However, he has been active on SSB during the weekend during his usual
time. QSL via KK5DO.
QSL INFO AND NEWS..................
Please be informed that K6AG is not the QSL Manager for 3D2AG. K6AG is
a silent key. Chris, KG6AR, a U.S. 6th District Bureau, states that he
receives many cards for him each month. It is recommended to QSL direct
to 3D2AG at: Antoine de Ramon N'Yeurt, P.O. Box 14633, Suva,
Fiji Islands.
Tom, SP5UAF, informs OPDX that the 7X0DX operation maybe over, but he
has updated some details and features on the following Web site at:

The site now includes some 7X0DX recordings with Mirek at mike. There
are many sounds from his satellite contacts from Algeria via AO40, as
well as top band contacts.
It has been announced that all portable activities by Philippe, F5OGG,
for the WLH or DPLF Awards program are now QSLed via LX1NO. However,
QSL route for Philippe's activities as F5OGG from his home station
are still/always through the french REF Bureau. Philippe, F5OGG, is
one of the WLH and DPLF Award founders.

KU9C REPORT. QSL Manager Steve, KU9C, reports that it was a real pleasure
to work many of you while at the WP2Z contest station last week. He was
glad to hand out the new one to many, and to say hi to old friends. He
had a great week, and he now sees why WP2Z does great in the contests....
While there, Steve spoke to Ron, the trustee of KP2D in St. Thomas. It's
a very active contest station, and he believes it has been active in
many of the RTTY contests, etc. Steve has agreed to help them by serving
as QSL Manager. He expects to receive logs in a week or two and should
be able to process the QSLs soon thereafter. Please note, it's going to
be a slow few months coming up, as PW0T will take first priority, and
the cards are due at the end of the month. Steve will also be working
the BQ9P pile as well....along with trying to catch up on YA5T. Please
don't E-mail Steve to see if you are in the log on BQ9P. He will not
have the logs for a few weeks.
Bernie, VK4EJ, reports that Steve, VK8AM, used the special callsign
"AX8AM" during the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Due to his changing of jobs
and residence, he has not had time to respond to all of the QSLs he
has received. Bernie has taken over the job of QSLing, and he is in
the process of answering ALL of Steve's QSL requests. Bernie has all
the logs, and asks those who have sent QSLs to be patient as they will
be answered within the next month. If you sent a QSL via the Bureau,
it will be answered also. Steve apologizes for this unforseen hiccup.
So all QSLs for AX8AM are now via VK4EJ: Bernie McIvor, 30 Brennan
Parade, Strathpine QLD 4500, Australia. Bernie also has plenty of QSLs
for Steve's P29BI operation from Bougainville (OC-135) in 1999-2000.
OH0ZV was active over the past weekend from Aland Island. The team of
operators were billed as "The Arctic Circle Greyline Watchers", headed
by Rich, K7ZV, while their captain in charge was Jaakko, OH1TX. Other
crew members involved were OH1NX, OH1TV, OH2BC, OH2BH and OH5BR. QSL
via K7ZV.
S2, BANGLADESH. Operator Ramayet, S21DM, was active this past weekend on
or around 21275 kHz between 1430 and 1630z. QSL via the qrz.com address.
Also, S21B was active on 21230 kHz around 1515z. QSL via KX7YT.
SPECIAL EVENT. Look for special event station 3Z0EMC to be active now
through June 28th during the 16th International Symposium and Exhibition
on Electromagnetic Compatibility at the Wroclaw University of Technology.

Activity will be on 80-10 meters CW/SSB and digital modes. QSL via SP6ECA.
The session EMC in Amateur Radio Service will be presented at this
symposium. Also, there will be a traditional meeting of hams, and
participants during the symposium with local hams at an organized contest
location near Wroclaw.
SPECIAL EVENT (Also IOTA Op). Look for special event station IQ9YL to be
active June 18-26th in connection with the "International YL Meeting" that
will take place in Palermo, IOTA EU-025, from June 21st to 23rd. QSL via
operators' instructions.
SPECIAL EVENT. Look for K5F to be active from June 6-23rd, on 80-10 meters,
CW only. This is a special event station to commemorate Amateur Radio Week
and will be active during Field Day Contest. QSL via KW5DX.
SPECIAL EVENT. Look for special event station N4B to be active now through
June 25th to celebrate the College World Series being in Omaha, Nebraska.
Station N4B (Nebraska For Baseball) will be operating on all bands and
modes and will be available for skeds for anyone needing the state of

SPECIAL EVENT. The Club station RK9XYW will be active as UE9XSC from
June 20-30th to take part at the 10th Scout Camp in Ulyanovo (Troitse-
Stefano-Ulyanovsky monastery). The operators will be RA9XF, UA9XF, UA9XOJ,
UA9XRV and the scouts. QSL via RA9XF direct with SASE or through the
bureau.
SU, EGYPT. Bob Blumberg, K4RB, an active contester, is now licensed as
SU9US. He will be active in most CW and some selected SSB contests from
his QTH in Cairo. QSL via K4DX, direct only w/SASE/SAE-IRC/etc, no bureau.
SU, EGYPT. Alan, VK6BN, is now active as SU9BN from Sharm El Sheikh,
Southern Sinai. He has been active on CW and PSK31 on 20 meters between
0230 and 0530z. Alan has been stating to QSL via VK6BN, but OPDX was
informed early Sunday morning by Fran, EA7FTR, that he is now the QSL
Manager for Alan. His address is: Francisco Lianez, Asturias 23,
21110 Huelva Spain.
TF, ICELAND (and also OX). Ramon, XE1KK, will be active as TF/VE7RKK from
July 2-8th. Activity will be on the HF bamds and UO-14. During that week
he will try to make a 2 or 3 day visit to Eastern Greenland and operate
UO-14 satellite only as OX/VE7RKK. There are plenty of good orbits to
work him from most of North America, all of Europe, North Asia and even
North Africa on this low orbit satellite. QSL to XE1KK, via the bureau
is preferred.
TK, CORSICA. Look for Isabelle, F5BOY, to be active as TK/F5BOY from
June 14-24th. She will be mobile on 10, 15, 17 and 20 meters.
XF4, REVILLA GIGEDO. Ramon's, XE1KK, DXpedition to Socorro Island announced
for the end of the year is now postponed indefinitely.
XW, LAOS. Champ, E21EIC, will be back in Laos again and will be active as
XW1IC from June 19-29th. Activity will be on 80-10 meters (maybe 160m)
and the WARC bands on modes CW, SSB and RTTY. For PSK-31 and SSTV, you
must request for a specific mode and bands. QSL via E21EIC (OK for direct
or HS bureau). ADDED NOTE: More than 1000 XW1HS QSL cards have now been
sent out.
XY, MYANMAR (Update). The August operation to Myanmar has been updated.
The schedule now includes dates, locations and activity as follows:
August 2-8th: Yangon, 80-10 meters, including the WARC and 6m;
one station.
August 9-22nd: Ngapali, 160- 10 meters, including the WARC and 6m;
up to 4 stations.
August 16-19th: Apaw-Ye Kyun, New IOTA (Arrakan Group) now permitted,
80-10 meters, including the WARC and 6m; 2 stations
minimum. IOTA activation length 4 days, possibly
longer.
Expected callsigns to be used are XY3C, XY5T and XY7V. For up-to-date

YA, AFGHANISTAN. Plently of activity from this one over the past week
by YA/DL5NAV (mainly CW, some SSB, 40-10 meters including the WARCs),
YA/G0TQJ (mainly RTTY, some SSB, on 15 meters), YA3GIB (20 meters SSB,
Op is UA3GIB) and YA5T (CW/SSB on 30-12 meters).
