John,
I have used the mini-quad for a long time. Infact have 2 of them one from
Erie and one from the new guy. The new one has the 3rd element and is in
Central America as we use it each October for CQWWSSB contest. I think for
the cost it is as good as any antenna.

Subject: [DX] MiniQuad vs MA5B

Has anyone had the chance to compare the TGM
communications Miniquad to the Cushcraft MA5B. Used
to have a MA5B, and it performed well for its size. I
had a Mini Products Mini Quad many years ago, and to
be honest, cannot remember how well it performed (if
this is a senior moment I am in trouble since I am
only 35). The gain figures on the TGM webpage look
impressive (maybe a little too good), but all of the
reviews on Eham.net are very positive for the mini
quad, and you never see them for sale used, so people
must like them.

Also, it would be nice to have an antenna with gain on
12 and 17 meters, and with the reduced size of the
mini quad, it should be easier to mount higher in the
air than the MA5B would.
