[DX] Correction, it was by OM6TX for YI9OM

Bob,

There seems to have been an ever increasing trend the last few years to
direct-QSL stations without using the bureaus. There are a lot of reasons
for this (and I know others will be able to name some I'm either not
familiar with or neglected to mention) but one of the biggest reasons is
that there are certain QSL Managers who decline to participate in the bureau
system on economic grounds. I'm not going to regurgitate their argument(s)
against the bureaus for them (for one thing, especially after discussing it
with veterans like KU9C, W3HNK and N2OO amongst many others, I don't agree
with them) but the fact remains that if you want a card for DX stations
being "handled" by certain managers, you must go direct.

Another reason is that many DXpeditions process direct cards first, before
bureau cards. And these are not neccesarily "rare" DXpeditions (ala TI9M,
VP6DI, etc) but trips to semi-rare DXCC entities, new IOTA islands, and so
on. So if someone does not have the patience to wait 2 or 3 years for that
card to come through the bureau, direct is the way to go. And for that
matter, this isn't neccesarily true just of DXpeditions; many DX stations
handle direct cards first but bureau cards sit and wait awhile. So, someone
working on an award (such as 80 M DXCC, my current project) may QSL a new
entity direct so as to have the confirmation in a few weeks or a month or
two, rather than 2 or 3 years.

And that leads to the biggest reason: Patience. Or lack thereof. There
are those who must have that new card RIGHT NOW and don't wish to wait on
the bureau. Well, if they've got the $$ to spend on IRC's or greenstamps
and all of the postage...

I realize that everyone wants to get their QSL's "Yesterday" for a DX
contact...My question is, What happened to the bureaus? Granted I have only
got 177 works and 116 confirmed, but I have been using the bureaus and
though it takes some time, the cards keep coming in. Sometimes I have to
wait a year or more, but they still get here and little or no cost to the
DX station. Oh, by the way I am working on my third DXCC. One as F7CP,
second as W2ZRX/VO1 and now this one.
