ABSORPTION is killing us on the high bands,
along with LOW MUF's at their end, since it
is summer down there.
MUF's peak very LATE in the day during summer
and summertime MUF's are lower due to solar heating,
causing the ionosphere to expand, which produces lower
ion density which results in lower MUFs.
The BEST time for NA on 10, 12, and 15M is
2300 to 0100Z, but by then, they are concentrating
on 20, 30, and 40M where they have mutual darkness
to all of Europe, continental Asia (plus near darkness
in JA), and the Eastern Time Zone of USA. 17M has
been quite good in the evening when they are there.
The best signals form VP8THU in Alabama have been
on 17, 20, and 30M with fair signals on 40M. I began
hearing them at 2310Z on 15M Sunday and their signal
built up for an hour or so, then started going down again.
I have yet to hear them on 12 or 10 Meters. 10M may
be marginal but 12M should be good at 2300Z.
