My apologies to anyone who saw this and immediately reacted "oh no, not
another one" or something on those lines.
You may find this of interest:
As per the discussions earlier this week, I'd sent a letter to eQSL formally
notifying them that I do not wish them to issue printed QSL cards on my
behalf. Last night, I received an email from Dave N5UP, who is the eQSL
webmaster (and possibly more, that's the only title he used). Dave informed
me in the email that he did not understand why I had sent the letter, and he
offered that he had no knowledge of our discussions here or of any other
reflector discussions on the matter.
I replied telling him again my position, and asking that any test logs I'd
uploaded be deleted if that meant they could be used to generate printed
cards against my wishes. His reply told me he does not know how I am
defining "appoint us as your QSL Manager" & that that I do not understand
the "new, innovative technology that defies defnintion under the old
terminology." (This was followed by an explanation of the system, which I
won't inflict on you.) It concluded by telling me "If that's not what you
hand intended, then you can log in, go to "MY PROFILE", and unsubscribe."
I went to the site this morning, and in the process of unsubscribing,
discovered that doing so would NOT delete the logs (which you can do by
going to the Outbox), only my access to them.
To say the least, I found the entire exchange disturbing and disappointing.
But I will leave it to you to draw your own conclusions (and if anyone wants
to see the entire exchange in it's entirety unedited, tell me privately and
I'll forward it to you). But in fairness to N5UP & eQSL, let me add this:
I deleted my logs in part because this entire process may have caught eQSL
in a trap (one I did not intend) should some smart-aleck try to have one of
my cards printed, and then submitted it for an award. I do not want to be
held responsible if eQSL is disqualified as a QSL Manager in the eyes of the
ARRL for issuing unauthorized cards. Since Dave appears to be unwilling to
understand my position... well, if he gets burned, do it with someone else,
keep me out of it.
