Thanks to Scott and all who replied.  I didn't realise that there had 
been civil unrest in New Caledonia, which must have coincided with the 
date that I mailed my QSL, so it's very likely that my letter has been 
lost in the turmoil there.  I'll drop Mic an e-mail and see if he has 
any better information.

BTW, for N6RAM. Mic is Michel, FK8IK. :-)
