XZ1J came up on sked. Just need it on ten meters, cw and/or SSB after
many failed attempts. No propagation to the east coast of the U.S. as in
the past.
Day 2, 3, ditto. The Mrs and I left for NYC to celebrate our 60th
wedding anniversary. Would have been nice to have worked them before the
trip.
Returned home on the evening of the 20th. Had a great time taking in
shows and getting together with family/friends. Exhausted. 82 is not
exactly a spring chicken.
Still nothing on ten for the XZ. Went to bed. Woke up late Thursday
morning, Nov 21st; our anniversary day. 60 years and they said it
wouldn't last. We fooled them. They are all gone.
Groggy and achy from driving 500 miles round trip, packing, unpacking.
It was a hectic couple of days in the big apple. Around 1500Z turned on
the VE7CC cluster and there were spots for the XZ on ten CW from east
coast stations. Headed for the shack. It wasn't a slow walk. Plugged in
the AC plugs I had pulled out for the trip. Warmed up the amp. Turned
the beam long path and there was the signal about 579. Adrenalin kicked in.
.
"Don't forget split" I said to myself. Six or seven calls later I got my
confirmation. Elated. No, very elated!
Went upstairs to brag to the Mrs. She was happy too. Put the spot out on
the upstairs computer and then noticed an east coast spot for the XZ on SSB.
Down again to the shack. Made a few calls and once again a confirmation.
The G- - s must be happy today. A double header win. Great anniversary
present.
Some days are good. Moral? "It ain't over till the fat lady sings". My
version: "Don't give up". _*Some days are like that.*_
