I think you are mixing up the domestic forever stamps and the new Intl
forever stamps.
The APC will printout and dispense the domestic forever stamp for use within
the USA. It DOES NOT dispense forever Intl stamps. You still have to tell it
you are mailing a letter outside the USA, then select a country (as if it
matters since all Intl postage costs $1.10). It then prints outs metered
stamps marked $1.10. The Intl forever stamps are round with a globe in the
center and must be purchased over the counter or online.
Don't mix up domestic metered forever stamps for Intl mailings.

If your local USPS office has one of those auto postage machines in the
lobby you can use anytime 24 hours a day, you can buy "stamps" through them
at the same rate as the regular USPS. I've gotten both USA and 1 oz.
International "stamps" through those machines with no problems, you just
have to have a credit card and you normally don't have to wait in line
either, execpt when someone is trying to use the machine and doesn't know
how.
The machine prints out what looks like a "metered" "forever" stamp rather
than a regular stamp. They used to dispense sheets of USA "forever" stamps,
but now they do a "metered" appearing stamp in sheets. As an FYI you can
decide from about a half dozen symbols you want on your stamp. At Christmas
they have Christmas and Hebrew Haunakkah symbols. The USA Eagle among
others. The machines this past weekend were still asking you what country
destination was your letter going. The machine will dispenase up to 40 USA
forever stamps by just touching the right part of the screen, or you can
just "another amount" and enter how many you want. I got 100 before the
price went up.
Also, the machine printed "stamp" isn't round and probably won'
t attract as much attention as the new round stamp.
As a note of warning, be sure and hit the sign out icon at the end stating
you're through or the next customer could possibly charge postage to your
credit card.
