It is my understanding from shipping many items overseas Ebay etc, that the USPS no longer treats foreign registered mail as registered. Every week I receive clearly registered mail from overseas just placed in my box, no signature needed and often return postcards are attached for me to sign and return (on the honor system?) Some of these contain $000s in merchandise. The best was a letter returned to Russia as undeliverable that was postmarked RUSSIA OHIO and the address from QRZ was valid. One registered item from the UK with the zipcode in error by 1 digit took 2.5 months to get from Houston to my new QTH in Bandera eventhough it said Bandera!

Canada appears to be an exception. Express mail from there that is not registered is treated as registered and I must go in line and sign for that. Go figure.

I find plain air mail using machine labels, not pretty stamps usually get through, although I wonder why the 1200 SAEs with IRCs I sent out in the 2000's were never replied to at a cost to be of nearly $3000 over 10 years. Even if they come through now they will not be delivered as I have moved! Oh well, back to happier issues - taxes!

Folks, below explains why the USPS system is completely broken. After 2 futile tries of 7Z7AB QSL via regular mail,
Abdulhafiz mailed another to me March 13th Registered. It hasn't arrived. I reported it to USPS on their web page
requesting a phone call to discuss this among other missing international mail. The reply is not from USPS Hqs
but my local post office, and another inept den of negilgence..73 Al W3AWU

   Dear Sirs,

below response is NOT acceptable! I gave you the tracking number of the missing REGISTERED letter from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
RU12028623SA mailed on March 13, 2013. I gave you the tracking info posted on the Saudi Post Office website. "Received at Jeddah March 13,
2013, departed Jeddah March 13, 2013 at 11:51local time "dep to AMC Kennedy". I serched USPS wesbite and called USPS 800 tracking
telephone number. It is not NOT in your system. So, the question is: are you going to check your records beginning at Kennedy,
or the USA point where the registered letter is signed for or not? Registered mail is supposed to be signed and accounted for
to the destination. If you imply in your response the USPS does not have the ability or even care about losing or finding REGISTERED mail,
then in my frustration I must say why bother using USPS at all? If you can't sense my frustration, what is my next alternative?
Call my congressman? If you are telling me you do not, can not and/or will not take the effort to find out what happened to REGISTERED
mail then I'm wasting my time and this confirms that there is NO ACCOUNTABILITY in the USPS from the top to the bottom!!

   What next? Alfred Cammarata

     Dear Alfred J. Cammarata,

I regret learning of the inconvenience you have experienced.

The Postal Service is aware of the frustration and disappointment caused when we do not live up to our commitment of safe and reliable mail service.

Unfortunately, an occasional piece of mail may fail to reach its destination. When mail items are found during our processing operations, they are collected in the "loose-in-the-mail" section of the Post Office. The item(s) are held for 7 days pending a match with a sender or an addressee. However, at times no match occurs. Sometimes an item will find its way to the Mail Recover Center (MRC) in Atlanta, GA. Items of value will be held at the MRC for 90 days. The information you have provided will be shared with management as they continue their efforts to improve service performance in your area.

Reports of mail loss greatly concern us. Regrettably, when such instances are brought to our attention, there is no sure way of determining what may have happened. With the large volume of mail moving through our network each day, it is literally impossible to trace a single piece of regular First-Class Mail. Only Registered Mail, which is accounted for during its entire journey, can be accurately traced.

Unfortunately untill and international piece of mail reaches we can not track it. The international search help line is 1-800-222-1811.

An apology is no substitute for good service, but I want to offer one on behalf of the Postal Service. We appreciate your reporting this matter to us. It helps to know the kinds of difficulties our customers have so we can work toward improvements. The loss of any piece of mail is as disappointing to us as it is to you.

Please accept our sincere apology for any inconvenience this matter may have caused you.

     Turnpike Post Office

     Fairfax Va. 22031
