Hi guys
My own experiences after handling QSLs for several large DX-peditions is that about 66% of QSOs tend to get confirmed with proper QSLs after a period of about 5 years. That would suggest to me that about 2/3 of operators collect "proper" cards and 1/3 are not bothered.
Statistics for LoTW confirmations are rather misleading as operators tend to upload their complete logs, not just the ones they want matches for.
Also, please remember that DXCC is not the only award scheme in the world. It just happens to be the most popular and the one that allows electronic credits. There are many other awards available of equal difficulty and which still require QSL cards. IOTA is one of the more popular, of course.
