In my ongoing pursuit of old QSO/QSL's for 15 or so years ago, I've found so far that 2 prominent DX'ers have had their logs "disappear" into oblivion, where no one knows where they can be located, and this is in the last 3 weeks. This seems to be a great shame that all of these efforts on their part are limited to their lifetimes. For my own purposes my 1996 CY0AA QSO's are backed up by 2 amateurs. Dave Heil has back up of all of his exploits in addition to mine, with instructions to forward after both of our deaths to another ham for processing.
For the many out there who haven't given this any thought, this might be the time to do so. W3HNK, N2OO, etc... carry on this type of service, but it should fall on the shoulders of each expeditioner not to let their efforts fade away. A central repository might be an idea. All logs get uploaded, all paper QSL's get forwarded to this location... covering not only the "paper chasers", but also the awards only hams.
My thoughts go back to Lloyd and Iris Colvin. They had the right idea. I'm sure if you wanted to get a card, your chances of getting one through YASME would be better than average. If I assume too much, then I've given the YASME organization too much credit.
Anyway....food for thought.
