[Dx-qsl] Where's Canada Again?

I can remember many many years ago it was cheaper to mail a QSL to the
Caribbean than to the rest of the world, like it is today for Mexico and
Canada. I guess they thought they must be losing money so made the Caribbean
mail the same rate as the rest of the world.

I am very friendly with my mail carrier. He tells me I get more exotic mail
than anyone he has ever known in his over 20 yrs as a mail carrier. My
exotic mail almost got me in trouble when I was based at Kodiak Alaska in
the 1960's. It was the cold war and we would be escorting Russian Bear
bombers out of Alaska air space. And there I was getting mail delivered to
my Air Station POB from Russia. The word got to the C.O. and I was called in
and asked why was I getting mail several times a month from POB 73 in
Moscow, USSR. So I explained what that big LP antenna was used for in the
Ham/MARS radio room which really came in handy when the Good Friday
Earthquake hit later that year.

Recently when I was in the post office for airmail stamps, the counter
person asked me where my card was destined, I said St. Lucia in the
Caribbean. I was asked then what part of Asia that was in, that they hadn't

heard of that place before. Maybe the USPO keeps raising rates because
they're sending our mail half way around the world, only to find out it's
not where they thought?

I would be pleased to teach a geography course to the USPO sorters...for a
price. I can only take so much .....

Happy mailing all !!!
