Is interesting - Canada Post buys IRCs from UPU for SDR0.74, which is
about CAD1.40. Canada Post exchanges IRCs for CAD1.70. That is 21%
above their cost. So maybe this is why they sell IRCs for CAD4.0 - a 285%
mark up. It looks especially bad if you compare what an IRC gets you there
compared to its face value: a little over 40%.
Compare this to USA, where it costs USPS USD1.16 to buy an IRC from
UPU. These are exchanged for USD0.98, about 16% below cost. They
sell an IRC for USD2.1, which is 81% above their cost. What an IRC gets
you compared to its face value: about half.
IRCs here are sold for 1.55 times their cost from UPU, which is one-third
of their cost to HKPost & are exchanged for about one-fifth their face value.
IRCs only make cents for POs, though maybe in NA they aren't as dear
as they seem. ;^)
