[Dx-qsl] Preference for C6 envelopes

When I first started direct QSLing in 2001 I used #10 outbound and #9
returns, and found a number of DX stations folded my return envelope as you
described. Even back then, I still received a good number of larger
"European-size" cards (roughly 6" x 4"). Within the last 5 or so years, I'd
have to say that well over 95% of my received cards are small enough to fit
inside standard (for Americans, that is) # 6 3/4 size envelopes. Anything
printed by UX5UO, QSLshop, the Italian printers, W4MPY and a host of others
are all within a few millimeters of each other and fit absolutely perfectly
inside these small envelopes.
So as a result, I now use peel-and-seal # 6-3/4 size security-tint envelopes
for returns. Maybe once a year-or-so an OM who uses larger-sized cards will
graciously uses his own envelope, but for the most part this is not an
issue.
Incidentally, in Canada it's very easy to find blue/red air mail envelopes,
but here in New Jersey and in New York, the only way you're going to get
these is by special order. Surprisingly, even in London, they only had two
sizes, one a little bigger than our #10 size (for A3 letters) and one
roughly 6x4 (don't know the size number for it), but it wouldn't fit into
the outbound without being folded, which to me is a huge no-no.
I've used Bill Plum's envelopes in the past and they're OK, but to be
honest, I'd rather have my correspondence look as if it was a business
letter. Printed envelopes, meter stickers, etc. A small, light # 6-3/4
nested inside containing my green-stamps and card works absolutely perfectly
for me.

Subject: [Dx-qsl] Preference for C6 envelopes
I use Plum nesting Air Mail envelopes.
The outgoing envelope measures 4 3/4" x 6 1/2"
And the nested return envelope measures 4 1/2" x 6 1/4"
I purchaed a similar size set of plain white for stateside use.
According to wikipedia a C6 is 114mm x 162 mm
which appears to be just a tad smaller than N. American standard A6
envelopes which are 4 3/4 x 6 1/2 very close to the Air Mail nesting set.
What a surprise, I was doing it right, before I knew this. LOL
But if this size return envelope is the Preferred Choice for NON USA DX
stations and managers, to save on postage weight, Maybe I should add that to
my GS/IRC chart???

If there is enough data received from the Non USA hams, I think I can fit
another column in.
Send the info to me directly, w9ol at billnjudy.com.
I will confirm your email and ask you to check it again to see if I got it
correct.
